    On Sunday, January 13, Mitch Zabokrtsky gave a special presentation at the Fairbury City Museum about the Early Settlements of Jefferson County. The special event was the first city event to commemorate the celebration of Fairbury’s 150th birthday. A large crowd filled the first exhibit room to listen to Zabokrtsky’s presentation.

    Miss Jefferson County 2017, Macy Ohlde, received the funds she raised as queen from Fairbury Community Foundation head Don Cook last week. Ohlde raised over $1,400 to use for her education, which was facilitated by the Foundation. For more information on becoming Miss Jefferson County, check out Miss Jefferson County’s Facebook page.

    Jefferson County Commissioners held their first meeting of 2019 on Thurs., Jan. 3, and one of the items on the agenda was LB617, the Adopt the Industrial Hemp Act.

    Several cases were heard on the criminal docket in County Court on Wed., Jan. 9. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.
    Jamie Mohr, 34, appeared in court for a rights advisement hearing. No complaint had yet been filed but she was arrested of drug and weapons charges. The most serious charge was possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, a class 1D felony that carries a possible penalty of three to 50 years in prison.
