    The Village of Western has taken initial steps over the past few months to have a new waste water treatment facility built next year and possibly going into 2020.

    Sorensen noted that he will be adding four new sergeant positions to the roster. He wants to ensure there is always at least one on duty for day and night shifts. The sheriff noted that The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will officially be taking over the coverage and patrol of the City of Fairbury on December 18.

    At the Fairbury City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 6, the council carried a motion to approve Mayor Homer Ward to sign a letter of agreement for professional services with Olsson Associates to conduct engineering services for water system improvements.

    The City of Fairbury City Council held a public hearing regarding the submission of a conditional use permit from David Lange for 422 4th Street, 402 E Street, and 404 E Street. The request was to allow for multi-family dwelling in the C-1, downtown commercial zoning district. 

  • Close Race Could Merit Recount

    With an unofficial count from the county clerk’s office of 1475 to 1468 votes, Mary Banahan retains her position as Jefferson County Assessor. The provisional votes that are still being evaluated for the remaining races today were critical in this race. Having a race this close, however, may trigger an automatic recount.

    Several cases were heard in district court on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Vicky L. Johnson was the presiding judge.

    On Tuesday, the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners approved for Jefferson County Sheriff Nels Sorensen to go forward in ordering two patrol units off the state bid. Sorensen confirmed that one unit will be used for the City of Fairbury and one will replace a unit for the county. The vehicle being replaced will roll over to be used for patrolling within the city.
