A friendly competition among local churches has had an overwhelming charitable outcome. Between Peace Lutheran Church, Endicott United Methodist Church, Grace Lutheran Church, American Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church, a total of 3,770 pounds of food was stocked at Blue Valley Community Action Food Pantry in Fairbury. Melanie Hooper, Gayle Barnett and the rest of the staff of the pantry have been working hard to separate and stock the items on the shelves at BVCA. The churches took several weeks of gathering the items as a challenge to see which church could raise the most pounds of food. Grace Lutheran won the competition by raising 2,518 pounds of food for the pantry while American Lutheran raised 645 pounds of food. Immanuel gathered 354.5 pounds of food while Endicott United Methodist raised 135 pounds of food. Peace Lutheran provided 117.5 pounds of food for the competition.
