At approximately 8:52pm the 1 st of August 2018 Jefferson County
Communications received a 911 call of a motorcycle deer crash just west of Fairbury on
Highway 136.

Vehicle #1 was a 2000 Yamaha driven by Zachary Wharton, 22 yoa of Fairbury, Ne.
Upon investigation of the crash it was determined that the vehicle was east bound on Highway
136 approaching the city limits of Fairbury. A deer came out of the south ditch and ran in front
of the motorcycle, the deer knocked the rider off of the motorcycle, the motorcycle continued
riderless down the road for an additional 421.5 feet and then it went into the ditch. Wharton was
transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life and then was flown by helicopter to a
Lincoln hospital for his injuries. His condition in unknown at this time.

Wharton was wearing a helmet and neither alcohol or drugs are suspected.

Emergency Services responding were Jefferson County Ambulance Dist #33, Fairbury Rural
Fire, Jefferson County Rescue, Fairbury Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s
Office.
