  • Casey Commits To Wesleyan

    When he truly dedicated himself to the sport of wrestling another opportunity started to bloom for Thayer Central’s Keegan Casey.
    After qualifying for state in Class D at 113 pounds – going 1-2 at state – Casey decided that wrestling was not only a sport he loved, but one he wanted to fully dedicate himself to.

    106: Ashton Sinn, Fr., Thayer Central Class D State Qualifier, 23-15
    Sinn was one of seven state qualifiers the Titans took down to the 2019 state wrestling tournament. He took third place at the District D-3 tourney and followed with a 1-2 record at state. Sinn placed in the top 4 at four tournaments during the season including the Auburn Invitational (2nd), Elm Creek Invite (2nd), Southern Nebraska Conference (4th), along with districts.

    Diller-Odell 36 HTRS 26 – Subdistrict D1-2 Semifinal, Tuesday
    Junior Emily Swanson scored her second-highest total of the season (14) in Diller-Odell’s win over third-seeded HTRS. She was 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Diller-Odell forced 31 turnovers in the game.

    Seward 35 Fairbury 30
    The Fairbury girls basketball team dropped their third consecutive game on Tuesday in an away matchup with Class B third-ranked Seward. Both squads found themselves in a defensive scrap with the score being 18-13 in the Bluejays favor heading into halftime. The Jeffs closed the gap to six points (31-25) with 2:22 left in the game but were unable to get closer. Seward’s 35-points was the lowest point total the Bluejays accumulated in a victory this season.

    From rejoicing a first-round victory to being heartbroken by criteria that decided a tied dual in the semifinals, the Thayer Central wrestling team experienced a roller coaster of emotions on Saturday at the state wrestling duals at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney.
