Fairbury Youth Have ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ At Library This Summer

The Fairbury Public Library will be holding a children’s reading program as well as an adult’s reading program this summer. The program began May 2 and will finish June 30. The theme this year is “Oceans of Possibilities.” The children’s program is open to children from first grade through high school. At sign up children will be given a coloring sheet. If the page is turned in by 2 p.m. on May 27 the child’s name will be put into a drawing to win one of two season passes to the Fairbury Public swimming pool.On June 4 the library will hold a craft time for the children.On June 8 the library will sponsor Curt Strutz, The Dinosaur Man, at the Bonham theatre at 10:30 a.m. The event will include both stationary and strolling attractions. Attendees will get the chance to interact with dinosaurs “up close and personal” according to Fairbury Public Library officials. On June 18 the Jefferson County Extension Office will present a program at 10 a.m. with a drawing for two tablets and other prizes following the event at 11:15 a.m.On June 28, the program will culminate with a Jeff Quinn show titled “Splash of Magic.” The show will be held at Bonham Theatre and will last between 40-45 minutes.The show will include family friendly humor, audience participation, magic tricks and messages that promote reading. One trick will even include the audience trying to find Nemo.Although there will be many fish and water-themed jokes and tricks in the show, no live fish are used and nothing will get wet. The adult program also began on May 2. Participants will get a small gift when they sign up and a second one if they complete the program. Everyone who completes the program will receive ten entries for prizes of their choice. To complete the program the participants must read at least two books and complete eight summer activities. Two additional entries can be earned for reading any book that is related to oceans, seas or water. Suggested summer activities include attending the Pollinator Wildflowers Program, create a sand art picture offered by the library, go fishing, complete activity or coloring sheets, go swimming, visit a lake or ocean, go canoeing or boating, attend the Dinosaur Man or Jeff Quinn Magician programs at Bonham or visit an aquarium.Select activities will earn participants up to three additional entries in the drawing.The Pollinator Wildflowers Program will be held at the library on Thursday, May 26 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The event will be presented by Nicole Stoner from Nebraska Extension in Gage County and will cover: the importance of pollinators, what to plant for season long pollinator resources and how to manage a pollinator garden.The drawing for the adult prizes will occur on June 30 at 10 a.m. Tickets will need to be turned in to the library by closing time on June 29.For more information, please visit the Fairbury Library at 601 7th street or email frbyCHILDlib@yahoo.com.
