On Monday, Senator Tom Brandt introduced LB 242 at the request of the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners with input from the Nebraska Association of County Officials.
“As a State Senator, I have always been interested in innovative concepts to address the needs of cities, counties and other political subdivisions.” Brandt said. “As a farmer, I have experienced the frustration that county bridges which are closed or unusable can have on our business. I am pleased to introduce a bill that is both innovative in its approach and does not increase property taxes.”

I mourn for the police officers killed and injured, the protester shot and killed, and the three others dead.

Cindy Chinn was working last week to get the 13th Annual "Christmas in Chester Light and Sound Show" ready for the coming season. Using a number computer controllers and RGB ribbon lights, as well a LED lights, Chinn has created a tradition in Chester. This year, Chinn is working to add wireless controllers to help deliver the data to the lights that are furthest away, and even added a new section across the street from the school.

The sentencing of convicted killer Aubrey Trail, 53, has been postponed. A hearing was originally scheduled for December 15 of this year in Saline County, when a panel of three judges will decide Trail's sentence for the murder of 24-year old Sydney Loofe of Lincoln. That hearing will now take place in March, 2021, but the date has not yet been scheduled.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office announced the results of the Click It or Ticket Mobilization from November 16th through November 29th, 2020. The campaign, which began with saturation and regular enforcement patrols in Saline County from November 16th through November 29th, 2020 resulted in 32 citations/arrests being made with particular emphasis on seatbelt usage.

Dollar General Corporation, which has a store in Fairbury, recently announced plans to build a state-of-the-art distribution center in Blair. The facility, which will include dual capabilities between the company’s dry and DG Fresh supply chain operations, represents an $85 million investment from the retailer in Washington County and, according to a recent statement, is expected to create 400 new jobs at full capacity. Construction is scheduled to begin next month, with completion slated for 2022.

The District 1 Probation Office has been recused from preparing the PSI (Pre-Sentencing Investigation) of Bailey Boswell, 26, of Wilber, who was convicted of the murder of 24-year old Sydney Loofe of Lincoln. A motion to recuse the Probation Office was issued by Boswell's defense team after it was learned that an employee of the office had posted on social media, in part, “Now, get full justice for Sydney. Dismember Bailey the same way Sydney was.”
The unnamed employee is no longer employed with the Probation Office.
