The Southern/Diller-Odell Raiders softball team watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-0 loss to Crete on Thursday. Crete scored on a double by Lexi Mach, a home run by Cassidy Skillet, and a groundout by Jordyn Coe in the first inning.
The Raiders struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Crete, giving up 11 runs.
Crete fired up the offense in the first inning. Mach drove in one when she doubled.

The bats were a bit chilly for Fairbury’s softball squad on Thursday.
The Fairbury Jeffs watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 6-1 loss to Bishop Neumann on the road. Bishop Neumann scored on a home run by Aubrey Sylliaasen and a single by Mattie Schultz in the first inning.
Jami Mans took the loss for Fairbury Jeffs. She went six innings, allowing six runs on 14 hits, striking out three and walking one.
Mans led Fairbury Jeffs with two hits in three at bats.
Against Lewiston, the Trojans lost 23-25, 22-25. Ella Clark led T. C. in kills with five while Morgan Stokebrand chipped in four. Clark had an excellent night serving, picking up six ace serves for T.C., while Cassidy Thavanet had three with Stokebrand and Sam Rainey picking up two each.
Senior Alyssa Brown had the lone block for T.C. on the night.
Mallory Chavez led the Trojans in assists with seven.
Both teams went back-and-forth on the volleyball court Tuesday (Sept. 8) as the Fairbury Jeffs traveled to Hebron to take on the Thayer Central Titans.
Neither school gained an advantage long but the Titans were able to put together runs toward the end of sets to win in three straight, 26-24, 25-23, 25-17.
Chloe Souerdyke led the Titans with 14 kills on the night while Kaisha Solomon and Jasa Wiedel each contributed eight kills on the night.
Champions have a nice ring to it. Saturday at the Ashland-Greenwood Invite the Class C Jeffs faced a host of Class B opponents and came away with a tournament title.
Facing the host squad and tied at 5 in the last inning, Mans had a walk-off bunt to score a run.
Jordan Tracy provided some heroics of her own. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Fairbury tied things up at five when Tracy singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. FHS won 6-5.
Tri County’s mascot is the Trojans, but Friday night is should have been the Monsters.
The Trojans ate up the Elmwood-Murdock Knights 56-16 at home Friday night.
Cole Siems, Jack Holsing and Drew Garrison provided three touchdowns for the Trojans in the first quarter alone. Siems scored from one-yard out for the first score, Holsing powered in from eight-yards out for the second score while Garrison knocked in a TD from one-yard out.
