Fairbury showed heart and determination against Milford on Tuesday (Sept. 1). The Jeffs drew it out to five sets but came up short, 25-22, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22, 15-9.
On the road Thursday, the Jeffs lost to Auburn, 20-25, 21-25, 20-25.

Thayer Central used some homecourt magic to secure a three-set win over Tri County on Thursday night. A raucous student section brought costumes, chants and enthusiasm to the contest, willing the Titans on to victory, 25-8, 25-13, 25-10.
Thayer Central used a strong defense to give their offense some room to move. The Titans had eight blocks on the night with 51 digs. Jasa Wiedel and Chloe Souerdyke each had two blocks in the contest.
On offense, the Titans had five ace serves with three coming from junior Jasa Wiedel.
Fairbury’s girls golf tandem finished seventh at the Beatrice Girls Golf Invite last week. Makenna Schramm finished in 31st place with a score of 135. Ericka Kroeker was close behind with a score of 136, finishing in 32nd spot.
Schramm shot a 68 on the front nine and improved her score to a 67 on the back nine. Kroeker shot a 65 to start the day and ended with a 71 to round out the day.
At the Seward Invite on Friday, Schramm shot a 122 for 46th place and Kroeker shot a 135 for 50th place.
The Meridian volleyball squad was in a battle with Blue Hill on Thursday, losing a tight match in four sets, 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 12-25.
Kaylee Pribyl and Jaala Stewart each had six kills on the night for Meridian. Kimberly Schropfer had two aces serving to lead the Mustangs and Jaslyn Ward picked up five blocks on the night for Meridian.
The Thayer Central Titans volleyball squad started the 2020 season on Saturday at the Minden tournament and won their first game against Blue Hill in thrilling fashion.
The Titans won 28-26, 25-20. The squad then defeated Centennial 25-22, 25-19.
Against host team Minden, the Titans won 25-18, 25-23.
The Tri County Girls Golf team opened their season with a quad meet in York in which the battled against all class B teams. However, lead by an experienced senior varsity team, they did not let this intimidate them.
Tri County shot a 210 which secured second place in team standings. In individual standings, three of the top five placings went to Tri County golfers. Carissa Lijewski placed third, Ryan Sand placed fourth and Paige Bartels was fifth.
The Southern/Diller-Odell Raiders softball squad took a 14-5 loss against Falls City on Thursday. Taylor Trauernicht had a homerun for the Raiders in the sixth inning.
Trauernicht led Southern/Diller-Odell with two hits in four at bats.
On Saturday, the Raiders stayed in it until the end, but Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan pulled away late in a 7-5 victory. Trauernicht had four RBI for Southern/Diller-Odell as well as a homerun.
Kendrea Troxel and Katie Forney each had a double.
The Fairbury Softball team had to deal with heat in more ways than one last week. The team played in sweltering 90-degree and above temperatures and their offense was red-hot.
On Thursday the Jeffs headed to Hastings to play in a triangular.
