The Fairbury girls basketball team defeated the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines 45-24 on January 14.
Both teams started the game off slowly, with Fairbury scoring 8 points in the first quarter and 6 points in the second where Wilber-Clatonia scored 7 and 3 respectively. After the half, Fairbury picked up the pace, scoring 16 points in the third and 15 in the fourth. The Wolverines weren’t able to bring the energy up to match the Jeffs, scoring 8 in the third and 6 in the fourth.
The first quarter belonged to W-C, the third to Fairbury and the Jeffs came away with a 39-36 win at home January 14.
The game started close with Wilber-Clatonia scoring 12 points in the first quarter compared to Fairbury’s 9, but Fairbury pulled a narrow lead by scoring another 9 in the second where Wilber-Clatonia only scored 4. After the half, Wilber-Clatonia scored 10 in both the third and fourth quarter where Fairbury scored 13 in the third and 8 in the fourth.
Hampton had their hands full Dec. 22 against Meridian. The Mustangs girls basketball team defeated the Hawks in girls basketball by 20 points, 46-26, thanks to solid play from nine different players scoring in the contest.
Against Lewiston, the Trojans lost 23-25, 22-25. Ella Clark led T. C. in kills with five while Morgan Stokebrand chipped in four. Clark had an excellent night serving, picking up six ace serves for T.C., while Cassidy Thavanet had three with Stokebrand and Sam Rainey picking up two each.
Senior Alyssa Brown had the lone block for T.C. on the night.
Mallory Chavez led the Trojans in assists with seven.

Wilber-Clatonia faced Milford on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and lost 10-2.
On August 31, the team lost to Weeping Water in a close contest, 7-8.
The Wolverines were up tied at 7-all in the fifth inning when a solo run scored in the final stanza by Weeping Water proved the difference. W-C had eight hits on the day while Weeping Water had 13.
After being down 7-0 to start the second quarter Friday night against St. Cecilia, the W-C Wolverine football team exploded for 22 points to take a commanding lead into the half. W-C defeated the Bluehawks 28-7.
W-C quarterback Coy Rosentrader went 15-25 for 193 yards passing and three touchdowns. Will Wenz had three receptions for 50 yards and one TD for W-C.
Mitchell Thompson had 84 yards rushing while Colby Homolka picked up 50 yards on the ground for W-C. On defense, Adam Kotas had five solo, seven assisted stops with two tackles for loss.
