Community Players returns with an “Outrageous Adventure”

Community Players returns to in-person programming with their upcoming production, “The Outrageous Adventures of Sheldon & Mrs. Levine.”  This hilarious comedy runs Aug. 7, 8, 14, 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Aug. 9, 16 at 2 p.m.

The box office, located at 412 Ella St., Beatrice, is open weekdays from noon to 5 p.m. and two hours prior to performances.  Reservations can also be made by visiting the box office (where a face covering is required) or calling (402) 228-1801.  To efficiently seat all patrons with social distance guidelines, online sales are temporarily suspended.

“Outrageous Adventures…” is an exchange of hilarious letters between an overbearing mother and her 31-year-old runaway son. In this love/hate relationship, Sheldon blames his mother, Mrs. Levine, for breaking up his marriage and ruining his life. His mother can't understand why something so trivial should bother him. Amid the angst, aggravation, and madness are two people, who although thousands of miles apart, are still too close to each other for their own good.

“When looking for a show to do right now, one thing was clear, we all need a comedy right now,” said Jamie Ulmer, Community Players managing artistic director.  “This wacky and unique form of storytelling is something we probably wouldn’t have done in normal circumstances, but nothing is normal right now – include the relationship between these characters.”

Playing the titular Sheldon and Mrs. Levine are Grant Bennett and Rosalie Duffy, respectively.  Ulmer directs the production.

“Above everything else we are excited to start returning to the stage, and we hope you will join us on this wacky comic romp whether in person or online,” Ulmer said.

Community Players is taking several steps to ensure the safety of its staff, volunteers, and patrons – including the requirement that everyone must wear a face covering at all times while in the building.  There will also be a temperature check/health screening for those arriving at a performance and all audience groups will be seated with six feet social distance (with group sizes of no larger than eight people).  For more information, please visit the theater’s website: beatricecommunityplayers.com/coronavirus-update

Ticket prices are $18 for adults and $12 for students.  2019-2020 Season Ticket holders may use any of their remaining admissions from last season towards this production.
