They'd visited their mother and grandmother during the elder Jensen's first trip to his former home.1953Jefferson County was to get $16,968 in federal funds for roads, providing it matched that amount with local money.Henri's infants and children's clothing store moved from the south side of the square to the east side. Helen McLarity was manager.1963Clarence Henkel, Jerry Johnson and Homer Mudge were members of a committee to consider the future of Fairbury Junior College. Fairbury Optimist Club youth appreciation certificates were presented to Mary Hays and Greg Weers of Diller, Gregg Johnson and Rachel Shepherd of Fairbury by Optimist International President, Ron Thompson.1983"The Diary of Anne Frank" was to be presented by an FHS cast. Members included Linda Schwab in the title role, Russ Moerer, Stephanie Epp, Katie Ebke, Mike Flanagan, Lori DeBoer, Alan Scarrow, Mike Beetley, Quint Buehler, and Julie Banahan. Betty Munoz was faculty director; Rhonda Moerer, student director.Tri County and Chester Hubbell-Byron girls volleyball teams won district championships.Maria Wiebe, German language instructor at Tri County High School, received an award from National Association of Teachers of German.1993FHS students presented "A Bull In A China Shop" for their annual school play.Ralph Shew and Hugh Gaffney of Fairbury and A.B. Wells of Plymouth World War I Vets took part in the annual Veterans Day celebration with special recognition.Authorities seek information regarding rash of rural burglaries in the southeast part of the county.1998Gubernatorial candidate Mike Johanns was in Fairbury at the Community Building. He spent time signing autographs. Over 80 people attended the supper provided by county supporters of Johanns. Johanns began in Ogallala, visiting several towns along the way and finishing in Lincoln. The candidate traveled with his wife Stephanie and two of his staff.2011The Fairbury City council authorized the hiring of one new full-time police officer and an additional part-time officer. Cory DeFrain, who had been serving the department in a part-time capacity was sworn in as a new full-time officer. Torrick Friels of Hebron was also sworn in as a part-time officer. Both were recommended for their respective positions by Police Chief Chad Sprunk with unanimous support given by the council.
