2022 “Click it or Ticket” Campaign Kicks Off This Month

According to a recent press release from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), “Did you know that only about 30% of people are wearing a seat belt in fatal crashes in Nebraska? Nebraska’s overall seat belt usage is 81% but the national rate is over 90%. That makes us 4th from the worst in the entire U.S.! I know Nebraskans don’t want to be the worst at anything. So, buckle up every time you get in the vehicle and make sure all passengers are buckled as well.”That is why, on Wednesday, May 19, the NDOT Highway Safety Office, Lincoln Police Department, Nebraska Safety Council, Bryan Health, Omaha Police Department and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at the Nebraska State Patrol Headquarters held a joint press conference to discuss the mobilization of law enforcement officers across the state as part of “Click It or Ticket,” as well as evidence that seat belts do save lives.The Click It or Ticket campaign focuses on educating drivers and passengers on the importance of always wearing a seat belt. This year, the “Click it or Ticket” campaign is May 23rd through June 5th.According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, “In 2020, 10,893 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were killed in crashes in the United States. Among the young adults (18 to 34) killed, more than half (60%) were completely unrestrained — one of the highest percentages for all age groups.”
