Jeffs In Tight Game Against SuperiorFootball is a game of inches and the Jake Johnson era of football for the Fairbury Jeffs came down to mere inches on Thursday, August 28 when the Jeffs were edged by Superior 7-0.Both squads battled up and down the field in the first quarter without a score. Superior hit a big run up the middle for a TD and was up 7-0 at the half. The second half was another battle of wills with neither squad able to score.On offense, lead rusher for the Jeffs was senior Jamison Runge with 22 yards while fellow senior Konrad Kuzelka had 21 yards. Senior Nic Smith had 19 yards on three carries. At QB, Jacob Nippert was 6-of16 for 43 yards and one INT.Top receiver was Runge with 22 yards on three catches while Jerik Mans had one catch for 12 yards.Defensively, Kuzelka led the Jeffs with six solo tackles while senior Rene Monterroso had five tackles, three solo and two assisted. Jaret Wood and Mans each had four tackles, two solo, two assisted for Mans and three solo and one assisted for Wood.The tandem of Wood and Kuzelka each had a sack on the night against Superior. Titans DominateThayer Central’s football team played with purpose and didn’t let up on the gas until the second half against Heartland on Aug. 29.The Titans had a 44-0 lead at the half, scoring 22 points in each of the first two quarters. In the second half, Thayer Central outscored Heartland 22-14 in the second half to win 66-14.Titan senior Laken Wiedel was 3-of-5 for 86 years and one TD while his main target was Peyton Hubl, with a 69 yard catch, whole Murphy Sudbeck had one catch for 20 yards.Top rusher for the Titans was Laken Wiedel with 113 yards on four carries, breaking off a 57-yard run and had three touchdowns.Jaxon Krupicka had 43 yards and one TD and Brady Degenhardt had 72 yards and two TD’s. Owen McLauhlin had one run for 48 yards. Nine different rushers for the Titans had carries and the team averaged 12.6 yards per carry. The Titans had 339 yards rushing. Heartland had 112 total rushing yards and 16 passing yards.Defensively, Cole Vorderstrasse had a sack for a seven yard loss. Leading Thayer Central in tackles was Vorderstrasse with 12, seven solo. Twenty Titan players had a tackle in the game. Vorderstrasse and Landon Powers each had a fumble recovery and Degenhardt had one interception.Meridian In ToughOffensive Game Against Pawnee CityIt was an afternoon battle on Aug. 29 between the Meridian Mustangs and the Pawnee City Indians. Pawnee City won 28-22.Meridian was up 8-0 in the first quarter and was up 15-14 at the half. Pawnee City had an 8-0 third quarter to go up 22-15. The Indians scored six points in the fourth and Meridian seven to make a surge but could not get over the hump.Boys Town Defeats WolverinesThe Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines lost to the Boys Town Cowboys on Aug. 29, 7-41. Griffins Near Century Mark In Win Over HarvardThe Harvard Cardinals looked ready for a competitive game on Friday, Aug. 29 against Diller-Odell at Diller…then the kickoff happened.The Griffins scored on offense, scored on defense and racked up a definitive 81-0 win.Diller-Odell was up 38-0 after one quarter which featured a sack resulting in a fumble taken back for a TD. The Griffins scored 23 more points in the second quarter and was up 61-0 at the half.The offense slowed down in the second half for the Griffins, only scoring 20 points, seven in the third and 13 in the fourth. JCC Gets Win Over TrojansTri County’s football squad ran into a hot offense in Johnson County Central on Aug. 29, dropping the game 12-52.Trojan sophomore Trevor Kapke was 3-of-10 for 24 yards and one interception. Top rusher was Owen Lewandowski with eight carries for 92 yards. Garrett Smidt had 12 carries for 58 yards.T.C. senior Zachary Vossler had two receptions for 26 yards for Tri County. Lewandowski had two TDs for the Trojans.On defense Lewandowski and Trevor Pearson each had nine total tackles, four solo and five assisted tackles for Lewandowski. Pearson had three solo and six assisted stops. Garrett Smidt and Nick Sullivan each had eight tackles.Kapke and Zachary Vossler each had a sack against JCC. Raiders Get Strong WinThe Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer Titans fell to the Wymore Southern Raiders on Aug. 29, 26-50.It was a big night passing for Raider Paxx Adams, he was 10-of-18 for 146 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Weston Whitwer had one completion for 15 yard and a TD.Five different receivers caught passes for the Raiders with Carsen Goes leading the pack with 45 yards. Hunter Pollman had 38 yards and Ethan Decker had 34 yards while senior Koltan Ideus had 29 yards on four receptions and three TDs.Senior Carsen Goes had 100-plus yards rushing with 11 carries for 115 yards, averaging 10.5 yards a carry. Adams had 60 yards rushing and Jacob Ward had 43 yards rushing.For the Raider defense Goes and Adams each had seven tackles, six solo and one assisted for Adams. Hunter Pollman had five solo and one assisted tackle for the Raiders.Showing his knack for being around the ball, Adams had two interceptions on defense for the Raiders and Koltan Ideus had a fumble recovery.
