Linda Potts of Fairbury was chosen Miss Congeniality. Barbara Ann Junker of Fairbury crowned Miss Quigley.1974Fairbury's new sewage treatment plant began operating. Built in 1913, it replaced an earlier structure a half-mile east. “Bowerville,” founded in 1869 and named for the Bower family of pioneer settlers, had the “ville” deleted in 1873 by the Post Office Department, which cited the similarity to “Brownville.”1994Robert Brackle of Fairbury and Gene Thomas of rural Daykin vied for a position on the Little Blue Natural Resources District Board of Directors in the primary election.Fairbury's junior and senior high trap team consisting of Nate Hinman, Brian Pavlicek, Steve Siebolt, Travis Hein and Eric Leonard, won the 16-yard competition with 225x250 score. Allison Rosener placed second in persuasive speaking at the district speech contest at Raymond Central to earn a trip to state.2004Kellan Garber, a Jefferson Intermediate sixth grader, finished 8th out of 56 spelling qualifiers at the district spelling bee competition at York High School on March 6.The district contest included 14 counties. Kellan's parents are Kent and Cindy Garber of Fairbury.Tristan Rempel of Fairbury was among 72 finalists, representing 14 states, to compete on the Northwestern College campus in Orange City, Iowa, for a Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship.
