1945C.C. Melander sold his Fairbury Taxi business to the Marvin Harts.Fred Preston, owner of Preston Milling Industries of Fairbury, bought the elevator at Shea from Lewis Barber.1955Guy R. Davis of Lincoln, FHS principal 1926-1936, was killed in a traffic accident. Dorothea Holstein, wife of Herbert F. Holstein, a former Fairbury furniture dealer, was critically injured. Davis and Mrs. Holstein were members of the state 4-H staff. It was a notable "50th," for Dr. J.H. Bond, Fairbury dentist. He was honored for 50 years as a Fairbury dentist and as a half-century member of the Masonic Lodge. It was also the Bonds' 50th wedding anniversary year.1965O.C. Brickell died after a lingering illness. He had secured the local Chevrolet franchise in 1923, adding Oldsmobile in 1924 and Cadillac in 1947.Mrs. Walter Metzger of Reynolds was hired as house-mother at the Junior College girls residence hall, succeeding Alta Stark, who had resigned. There'd been 44 residents the first semester of the preceding term, 39 the second and 46 were anticipated for the fall semester. The “dorm” was the former Florence Hotel building, just west of the Lynch Clinic.
