Jeffs Come From Behind In Hot Conditions To Secure Win In Home Opener

A late game opportunity was seized as the Fairbury Jeffs softball claimed a victory 9-7 over Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan on Tuesday, August 24. The bats came alive as the Fairbury Jeffs collected 11 total hits from the game. Anna York, Casidy Sipek, Jami Mans, and Aspen DeFrain each managed multiple hits for the Jeffs. Lexie Mau, Malayne Deboer, Jami Mans and Courtney Sipek each brought in one RBI. The one RBI brought in by Sipek was from a triple in the bottom of the 6th which broke the 7-7 tie at that point in the game. Aspen DeFrain was able to lead the way for the Fairbury Jeffs bringing in three RBI. Jami Mans is credited for the win for the Jeffs after an outing where ten hits were allowed with seven runs over seven innings pitched striking out three and walking one. Walking away with one win and one loss from the Hastings Triangle were the Fairbury Jeffs softball squad. Fairbury gave a hard fought battle but fell against Adams Central 11-7 in the first game of a triangular in Hastings on Thursday. Malayne DeBoer, Olivia L’Ecuyer, and Courtney Sipek managed to grab one hit a piece along with a RBI. Sipek’s one hit was home run in the fourth inning. Jami Mans went two for three at the plate to lead the Fairbury Jeffs in hits. Mans took the loss on the mound after going four, and a third innings allowing 11 runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking zero. The Jeffs came ready to play in the second game against Ord winning 15-1 off of eleven hits with a strong offensive showing. Anna York, Aspen DeFrain, and Malayne DeBoer contributed with one hit a piece, and one walk. The bulk of the offense came from the bats of Jami Mans and Courtney Sipek both going three for three on the day with Mans bringing in four RBI and Sipek with five. In the process of going three for three, one of Mans hit was a double, and a home run as well. Sipek would join Mans in the fun by hitting a home run immediately after on a 1-0 count over center field for a solo shot. Aspen DeFrain would take the mound and the win for the Fairbury Jeffs softball pitching three innings allowing four hits, one earned run, three walks and five strikeouts. The Fairbury Jeffs move to a 4-3 record heading into the Seward Tournament on August 28.
