Hyson Continues To Dominate Heavyweight Division, Now Only At National Level

One last time to get on the mat for high school competition at the Mid-Summer Mat Bash in Dallas, Texas to represent Nebraska was in store for the last weekend of July for recent Fairbury High School grad Kazz Hyson.It’s one thing to get another opportunity to wrestle in representing your own state, but to go out and dominate just adds to the satisfaction of earning each of those wins.On the first day of competition he went (6-0) with five pins all in the first period with his lone decision win of 8-1 was over a pre-season nationals medalist and number two ranked heavyweight in Texas.The next day Hyson would go 3-0 with a quick pin victory, and two forfeits.By the end of the of the Bash, Hyson would be one of only two heavyweights to go undefeated. Hyson had asked the other for an exhibition match, but was respectfully declined one more thus ending his last taste of competition, going 10-0.Having a chance to reflect on all that has been accomplished and learned has Hyson excited to take the next step up in competition as he talked about his experience saying, “It was a lot of fun because at first as I traveled down with this Kansas team, and then was put in like a ‘Free Agent’ team and met guys from all over the country, they were some of the best guys I could’ve met for the trip. Myself and this guy named Bobby actually got named team captains and it was funny as I was the heaviest guy on the team and he was the smallest at 98 pounds.”Hyson will take some great memories with him when he goes to Morningside to wrestle next year.“What I’m taking away from these experiences was learning to be able to trust myself more, get more open with my offense and I think that the results from the trip show that,” Hyson said.Now that his time with high school competition is done, Hyson has in the past and will probably continue to help the future wrestlers to come through Fairbury and was able to speak on the legacy Hyson hopes other wrestler’s can look up to saying, “If someone was to look at my work done, I gave it 100 percent all the time. Whether I was good or bad at whatever I was working at, I gave it 100 percent of everything I had and was willing to do whatever it took to get better.”A top five medalist at state in February, a member of Nebraska All-Star wrestling at the All-Star duals, and undefeated at the Mid-Summer Mat Bash caps off an astounding career for Hyson.
