Blue Springs Man Gets 90 Days for 2022 Drug Case

One of five suspects arrested after a drug investigation in 2022 was sentenced to 90 days in jail. A plea agreement allowed him to avoid a felony conviction.Tyler B. Fazel, age 33, of Blue Springs, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, January 10, 2023. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Fazel was originally charged with felony child abuse, a class 3A felony punishable by up to three years in prison, 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison and one year of post-release supervision.The child abuse charge was the result of having a child in a residence with controlled substances.On December 16, 2022, at approximately 7:45 p.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a Narcotics Search Warrant on a residence at the 1000 block of B Street in Fairbury.Upon entry, five adults and two minor children were located on the premises.According to the sheriff’s office, multiple controlled substances and related items were found in the residence, including: methamphetamine, marijuana, THC wax, and “numerous paraphernalia items.”Others taken into custody at that time were 25-year-old Makayla Ruzicka, 38-year-old Thomas Caudy, 53-year-old John Seefus and 54-year-old MaryAnn Flinn.In accordance with a plea agreement, Fazel pleaded No Contest to a reduced charge of attempts of a class 4 felony, which is a class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.The defendant's attorney, Ben Murray, asked for a minimal jail sentence, “We understand there is probably going to be some jail time.”Judge Bauer sentenced Fazel to 90 days, with credit for 18 days time served.The defendant was then remanded to the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office to carry out the sentence.
