Warrant Issued for Steven King

A warrant was issued for a Fairbury man after he failed to appear for court.Steven J. King , age 24, was scheduled to be sentenced in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge. King is charged with driving under a suspended license, a class 3 misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in jail and a $500 fine. His license was suspended due to insurance cancellation.The defendant pleaded guilty on April 6 of this year and was given time to try and get his license reinstated before sentencing. County Attorney Joseph Casson advised the court that King's license still was not reinstated. This is not the first time King has failed to appear for court. He was scheduled to be arraigned in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, January 15, of this year. After he failed to appear, Judge Bauer issued a warrant and a bond was set at $1,500 (10 percent).Again, Casson motioned that bond be revoked and another warrant be issued. Judge Bauer granted the motion and set a new bond at $2,500 (10 percent). King also has an active case in Gage County, where he was originally charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison and one year of post-release supervision. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction. In accordance with a plea agreement, King pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted possession, a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The paraphernalia charge was dismissed. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday, June 23. In that matter, he remains free on a $5,000 (10 percent) bond.
