Hebron Man Sentenced to One Year for Drug Crime

A Hebron man, formerly of Fairbury, was sentence to one year in jail for drug possession.Jeffery S. Stotler, age 22, of Fairbury, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on Thursday, July 3, 2025. David J.A. Bargen was the presiding judge.Stotler was originally charged with possession of methamphetamine, a class 4 felony punishable by up to two years in prison, nine to 12 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction that carries a $100 fine.On April 26, 2024, the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office executed a search warrant at a residence in Fairbury. Multiple individuals were found within the residence. According to the arrest affidavit, located in a bedroom where Stotler resides, was, “a mirror with a white crystalline substance and a glass pipe with a burnt bulb containing a white substance were discovered in plain view.”The affidavit indicates the white crystalline substance tested positive for methamphetamine.In accordance with the plea agreement, Stotler pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of attempted possession, a class 1 misdemeanor. The paraphernalia charge was dismissed. In addition, County Attorney Joseph Casson agreed not to oppose the defendant's request for probation.The defendant requested probation. However, Judge Bargen noted Stotler had previously had his probation revoke on two occasions.Stotler said, “I really can complete it.”Judge Bargen sentenced Stotler to 365 days in jail, with credit for three days time served.
