Eventually, they will be blacked out.News written by machines, images created by machines, historical events altered or changed becoming frequent is what will be a tipping point soon.News on the web will get muddy, fast. Newsprint, however, is hard news, literally. There is a print edition that is put together by humans, put on a press, run by humans and distributed by humans. As the world wide web continues to make things up and news sites continue to feed off of itself through AI intelligence, the one thing you can rely on is that this publication is run by humans and the news is vetted by humans.Some news agencies are going toward digital means of distribution due to costs. I get it. Costs continue to rise in all aspects of business and especially in postage rates and newsprint.As an industry, we work with the post office to get periodicals out as fast as possible to their destination and with paper companies to keep the cost of newsprint down to keep things running smooth without a huge spike in prices. As the balloon fills with unreliable news and bots begin to steal information from other bots, the newsprint edition will still be a reliable source of news.There is also the aspect that there are thousands and thousands of websites carrying news, social media pages carrying varying degrees of those same news stories filtered through the lens of whatever algorithm is leading the charge. There is one FJN. Easy to find on the web, even easier to find in your community. When the balloon bursts the fact will remain that a print edition is very hard to corrupt and the people doing the print publication are real people, doing a process that is hundreds of years old.
