The Center for Rural Affairs will soon hold the following events:Online and Omaha, Nebraska - Feeding Omaha Metro with Ken Meter, Monday, Aug. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m., with a buyer meet-and-greet to follow, at No More Empty Pots Greenhouse. Food security stakeholders from across the Omaha Metro region have the opportunity to participate in an important conversation about working together to increase food security and resilience for communities across Nebraska. Author and food systems expert Ken Meter will present findings from the 2024 Omaha Metro Farm & Food Economy report, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with him. Geneva, Nebraska - Conservation Mentorship Network Field Day, Monday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, near Geneva. Farmers interested in learning about soil health principles and their impact are invited to a free field day and farm tour featuring Geneva-area farmer Jordan Uldrich. Topics of discussion will include no-till, cover crops, alternative weed control, as well as federal programs available to help cost share certain practices. The event will also feature a rainfall simulator and brief presentations from local Natural Resources Conservation Service staff. A free lunch will be provided in Milligan after the tour, where attendees will have an opportunity to share open dialog with one another. Plymouth, Nebraska - Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): Behind-the-scenes, Monday, Aug. 25, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., at West End Farm. This on-farm event dives into what goes on behind the scenes of a CSA. Learn from seasoned farmer Katie Jantzen, owner and operator of West End Farm, about why she started her own CSA. All attendees will leave with a bag of fresh veggies to enjoy at home. This event will be presented in English and Spanish.
