Accident Illustrates Importance of Careful Driving When Crops Are High

Obstructed visibility caused by high crops contributed to a recent two-vehicle accident in rural Jefferson County. That was the conclusion of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at approximately 3:37 p.m., the Jefferson County 911 Center received a 911 call in reference to a road accident at the intersection of 709 Road and 559 Avenue in rural Jefferson County. When deputies arrived, they found that there were two vehicles involved in the accident. One vehicle was a 2015 Ford F-150 driven by Quinton Bolejack, age 33, of Jefferson County, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The second vehicle, a 2022 Ford F-250, was driven by Cleavey Young, age 25, of Spokane, Washington, also the sole occupant of the vehicle.During the initial investigation of the accident, it was determined that Bolejack was traveling eastbound on 709 Road, approaching the 559 Avenue intersection. Young was traveling northbound on 559 Avenue and approaching the 709 Road intersection. According to the sheriff’s office, “Due to visibility obstruction from crops in the fields both vehicles proceeded through the intersection at the same time and collided in the intersection.”The vehicle driven by Young proceeded north through the intersection after the collision and rolled into the cornfield. Young was ejected from the vehicle during the roll and landed in the cornfield northeast of the intersection. Young was up and talking to first responders when they arrived.The sheriff’s office reported that restraints were not in use by either driver. Young was transported to Jefferson Community Health and Life by the Jefferson County Ambulance and later flown by medical helicopter to a Lincoln hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Bolejack sustained minor injuries from the accident and was not transported to the hospital.Responders to the scene were the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Ambulance District #33, Fairbury Rural Fire Department, and Gilead Fire Department.
