Runners Headed To State Cross Country

It was a great time to hit their stride.Several area runners have punched their ticket to the state cross country meet in Kearney.In the C4 district, Wilber-Clatonia came on strong with three runners in the top 15.W-C senior Evan Odvody was second (17:40.2) while teammate Ryan Nicholson was third (18:09.7). Beau Odvody finished 10th for W-C (18:21.7).With three runners in the top 10, W-C captured the district title over Milford. Other runners for W-C included Johnston Petersen (18:32.19) and Jameson Conway (19:11.54).At the district meet on Oct. 15 at Branched Oak Lake at Raymond, the W-C girls were led by Brittany Torres with a time of 25:25.Matilda Koll had a time of 29:41.3 for W-C.The Tri County girls team, and the entire field of runners, were led by Sage Holtmeier, winning the district title with a time of 20:40.5. Isabelle Peters was third for T.C. (21:37.3) and Emma Loxterkamp was eighth (22:25.4).Rounding out the field for Tri County at the Cass County Fairgrounds for the D-1 district meet was Livia Peters (23:36) at 14th. Edith Holtmeier had a time of 27:07.7 for the T.C. girls.For Thayer Central, top runner was Maggie Johnson, just missing the top 15, finishing 16th (23:42.7) while Joah Anderson was 17th (24:01.6).Nell Johnson had a time of 25:56.8 for Thayer Central and Astrid Bloom finished with a time of 26:05.5. Tori Swartzendruber had a time of 28:31.3.The Tri County team finished first, followed by Aquinas Catholic. Thayer Central was fourth.The Tri County boys ran away with a first place finish at the district meet. The Trojans had five runners in the top 15. Drew Siems won the race (17:21.3), well ahead of Hayden Jansen of Freeman (17:33). Sammy Holsing of T.C. was third (17:40.5) and Devon Rasmussen finished fifth (18:04.4) for the Trojans.Dawson Siems was ninth (18:27.6) and Henry Kapke 11th (18:34.6) for Tri County..Top male runner for Thayer Central was Justin Alexander (17th) with a time of 18:49.3.Ethan Rinaker had a time of 20:40.6 and Deklann Daharsh finished with a time of 24:22.6.Louis Keim, Thayer Central cross country coach, said, “We had three runners that gave their all and just missed qualifying by a place or two. Maggie Johnson ran her best race by nearly a minute and finished in 16th place by .1 second. Joah Anderson was right behind her in 17th. In the boys race Justin Alexander finished in 17th place. All our runners ran extremely well against tough competition, and as coaches we couldn’t be more proud.”
