Man Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit Sentenced

A Lincoln man, formerly of Diller, who arrested in Jefferson County after a high-speed pursuit was given two years of probation.Jonathan A. Loury, age 38, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.The defendant was originally facing five charges: Operating a vehicle to avoid arrest, a class 4 felony, punishable by up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine; Willful, reckless driving, a class 3 misdemeanor punishable by up to three months in jail and a $500 fine; DUI (Driving Under the Influence), with a high test (over 0.15) and one prior conviction, a class 1 misdemeanor, punishable by 90 days to one year in jail, a $1,000 fine and license revocation; Possession of an open alcohol container, and infraction that carries a $100 fine and Failure to use a seat belt, an infraction that carries a $25 fine. Basis for the ArrestThe defendant was arrested the evening of March 21, 2025. According to the arrest affidavit, at approximately 11:08 p.m., deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's office witnesses a vehicle traveling east on Highway 136 that did not stop for a stop sign.The deputy that filled out the affidavit reported the suspect fled when deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop, “I pursued the vehicle east on 136 the vehicle reaching speeds in excess of 113 mph (miles per hour), my over head lights active and using my siren intermittently as well as my air horn.”The vehicle reportedly left the highway west of Harbine and on to 715th Road. The vehicle stopped between Curtis and Adam streets south of Harbine on 715th Road.The defendant was arrested at the scene. Plea AgreementIn accordance with a plea agreement, Loury pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor flight to avoid arrest. The remaining charges will be dismissed pending completion of the agreement. SentencingA PSI (Pre-Sentencing Investigation) recommended probation despite the defendant’s significant criminal history, much to the surprise of both the judge and even Loury’s own attorney, Public Defender Scott Gropp, who had warned his client he was likely facing incarceration.However, Judge Bauer noted that Loury must have impressed the probation officer that completed the PSI with his commitment to turn his life around.“I don’t know if I’ve ever gone back and forth so much on a case,” said the judge.Judge Bauer sentenced Loury to 24 months of probation and impounded his driver’s license for one year. She said, “Even though I think it’s a bit of a risk.”The judge then added, “I probably won’t take it kindly if you come back.”
