BoysWolverines Host AuburnOn Jan. 22, the W-C Wolverine basketball team faced Freeman and lost 46-67.Then on Jan. 24, the Wolverines hosted Auburn. The Bullldogs won 70-31.FHS Offense Hot Against MustangsFairbury’s boys basketball team faced Raymond Central on Jan. 20 and hit the floor hot and never let up until the fourth quarter.FHS easily won, 63-22, over the Mustangs. It was 24-5 after one period and the Jeffs held a 38-13 halftime lead.A 17-4 third quarter firmly put FHS in command. The Jeffs outscored Raymond Central 8-5 in the fourth to secure the win.Coming on strong in the second half of the season is Jonah Parrack, knocking down 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals while James Martin continued to lead in the guard position, adding 14 points with four rebounds, one assist and two steals.Brodie Prellwitz had another solid game with 12 points, seven boards, five assists and one steal. Jerik Mans stepped up his game with nine points, two board, five assists and a steal. Drew Kroeker added six points and four boards for the Jeffs. Jacob Nippert had two boards, three assists and a steal for FHS.The Jeffs faced Sutton on Jan. 22 and came away with a tight win, 48-42. FHS was up 23-18 at the half and closed out the game with a 25-24 second half to get the win.The combo of Jonah Parrack and Brodie Prellwitz each scored 12 points. Prellwitz had five rebounds, one assist and two steals and Parrack had five rebounds, three steals and a team high three blocks.Jacob Nippert had nine points, three boards for the Jeffs and CJ Goeking had six points, two boards and Drew Kroeker had three points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Titans Drop TwoSandy Creek was able to stay consistent on offense and defeat the Thayer Central boys basketball team on Jan. 20, 57-29.The Titans then faced Cross County on Jan. 22 and the Cougars won 65-32.Mustangs Hit Snag On OffenseUntil the fourth quarter, the Meridian boys basketball team struggled on offense against Twin River on Jan. 20. The Mustangs lost 33-53.Leading scorer for Meridian was senior Landon Peterson with nine points, five rebounds, three steals and Peterson had all three blocks for Meridian in the game.Jayton Jones had seven points, seven boards, one steal while Maddox Haake had six points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal and Braxton Davis had six points, one rebound, three steals.Beau Bartels ended the night with two points and seven rebounds, including six defensive boards.The Mustangs faced East Butler on Jan. 22 and lost 39-68.Meridian lost to Osceola on Jan. 24, 42-58. Raiders Battle GriffinsA big second half lifted the Diller-Odell Griffins over the Southern Raiders on Jan. 20. The Griffins won 59-49.Diller-Odell was up 23-21 at the half after being down 11-7 to Southern after the first quarter.A 20-11 third quarter and 16-17 fourth helped the Griffins stay ahead.Three Griffins ended the night in double figures with senior Jack Phillips scoring 15 points with five rebounds, six assists and one steal while Xavier Zabokrtsky had 12 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals. Peyton Humphreys had 11 points, five boards, one assists and one steal. For Diller-Odell, Jake Behrends had eight points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.Diller-Odell had a 20-8 assist advantage over Southern. The Griffins shot 38 percent from behind the arch, while Southern was at 11 percent. Southern held a 78-60 advantage in the free throw category with Adams going 4-for-4 on the night from the line.Top scorer for Southern was Paxx Adams with a double double, scoring 15 points, a team high 13 rebounds (12 defensive), six assists (team high), three steals (team high) and one block. Ethan Decker turned in 12 points, seven boards, two assists for Southern while Blake Meece had six points, one board and two blocks for the Raiders. Weston Whitwer had seven points, two steals and two rebounds for the Raiders.The Griffins faced Lawrence-Nelson on Jan. 22 and lost a heartbreaker, 45-49.Xavier Zabokrtsky had 16 points, one rebound, two assists and two steals. Creyton Heidemann had eight points, four rebounds and a steal for the Griffins while Cale Clifford had six points, one board, one assist and Jack Phillips had six points, one rebound and two steals. Peyton Humphreys had four points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Jake Behrends had nine rebounds, three assists and three steals. Trojans Continue Solid OffenseTri County had a solid offense and played superior defense against Elmwood-Murdock on Jan. 20, winning 66-37.The Trojans were up 21-13 after one period and held a 33-19 halftime lead. A 21-5 third quarter put the Knights in a deep hole, down 54-24, going into the fourth quarter.Seniors Zach Vossler and Drew Siems combined for 32 points, each scoring 16 points. Siems had five rebounds, eight assists (team high) and a team high five steals. Vossler had six boards and a monster game on defense, scoring all four of the Tri County blocks in the game.Trevor Kapke had nine points, two assists and a steal for T.C. while Jason Wehrman had eight points, one board, three assists and two steals.The Trojans faced Johnson County Central on Jan. 22 and the Thunderbirds won 60-47. GirlsLady Jeffs Drop TwoThe Lady Jeffs had some offensive struggles on Jan. 20 against Raymond Central.The Mustangs defeated FHS 61-21.Senior Micah Friesen led FHS with seven points, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block while fellow senior Molly Hansmire had four points, three boards. Alecia Bedlan ended with three points, two assists and Mia Dears had three points, one rebound. Jordin Gill had two points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal while Cambria Myers had three boards, two assists.The Lady Jeffs hosted Sutton on Jan. 22 and lost 24-69.Mustangs Lose To East ButlerOn Jan. 21, Meridian’s girls basketball team faced Twin River and could not get the offense on track, losing 21-50.Meridian faced East Butler on Jan. 22 and lost 24-54. Raiders Down GriffinsIt was a battle from beginning to end as the Diller-Odell Lady Griffins faced the Southern Lady Raiders on Jan. 20.The Raiders won out, 50-41. It was 12-7 in favor of the Lady Griffins after one quarter and an 18-9 second quarter put the Raiders up 25-21 at the half. Southern took control in the second half, outscoring Diller-Odell 14-11 in the third quarter and capped the night off with an 11-9 fourth quarter.Southern sophomore Hadlee Maxson led the offense for the Raiders with 10 points and had three rebounds, three assists and a team high eight steals.Sophomore Jaylin Klover pitched in 11 points, eight boards, three assists and three steals for Southern while Emma Eisenhauer had eight points, 10 boards, three assists. Senior Annika Glynn had six points, three rebounds and a block while Reece Barnard had three points, five boards, one assist and a block. Southern senior Jenna Forney had three points, one rebound and two steals.For Diller-Odell , top scorer was Berkelee Beekman with 15 points while Hailee Miller had 12 points and Aidan McKinney had 11 points. Madisyn Rosebaugh ended with three points for the Lady Griffins.On Jan. 22, the Lady Griffins kept the offense and defense rolling, defeating Lawrence-Nelson, 47-22.The Lady Griffins were up 24-4 at the half. Diller-Odell outscored the Raiders 23-18 in the second half.Three different Griffin players had double digit scoring, led by Beekman with 14, Miller with 12 and McKinney with 11. Sidney Engelman had five points and Jayna Novotny had four. Titans Win TwoThe Thayer Central girls basketball team defeated Sandy Creek on Jan. 20, 42-29.The Titans then faced Cross County on Jan. 22 and won 39-26.Trojans Gut Out WinElmwood-Murdock was game on Jan. 20 facing off against the Tri County girls basketball team, but the Trojans prevailed 59-51.It was 16-12 in favor of the Trojans after one period and 30-22 at the half. A 20-10 third quarter put T.C. up 50-32 going into the fourth quarter. The Knights outscored T.C. 19-9 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overcome the earlier deficit.Tri County freshman Rylan Beerenstrauch and Trojan senior Isabelle Peters each scored 16 points. Beerenstrauch added two rebounds, three steals to her totals while Peters had two rebounds, three assists (team high) and five steals (team high) with one block.T.C. freshman Claire Schnuelle had 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block while senior Brooke Morgan had six points, four rebounds and two steals.On Jan. 22, the Trojans faced Johnson County Central and lost 39-44. Wolverines Lose To AuburnWilber-Clatonia lost a tight game against Centennial on Jan. 20, 43-47.On Jan. 22, the Wolverines lost 38-56 to Freeman.Auburn defeated W-C on Jan. 24, 47-37. The Wolverines were up 24-19 at the half. Auburn outscored W-C 16-10 in the third quarter and 12-3 in the fourth.Raiders Face SterlingThe Southern Raiders faced Sterling on Jan. 23.
