Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,We are preparing for the Fairbury Area Community Choir Good Friday service on April 3, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, 2310 H Street. Rehearsals begin on February 12th at 7:00 PM. Everyone is welcome, no audition required! We need singers, instrumentalists, pastors, adults, children, helpers of any kind and people to attend because this is an important event! In fact, for those of us who are Christians, we consider this the most important event in history. The innocent Son of God, Jesus Christ, died on a cross in our place so that we could live with Him in glory when we die! Believe it and you will live forever – to die in Christ is to live with Him forever!There, that’s the proclamation and that’s the easy part. The difficulty is getting the Word out and getting people to buy in; convincing them that this is the only “Good News”. That maybe if we all would pull together and unite in a common shared belief that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life then everything else in life might get better. None of us are perfect but we all basically want the same things – love, health, contentment, purpose, prosperity, forgiveness, kindness. The list could go on and on . . . . . Let’s make this special service our time to work together and to tell the world that we care about our community and the salvation of all God’s people.In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of a shepherd who has 100 sheep and when he discovers one is lost, he leaves the 99 and goes searching for the one. He is so happy when he finds it and brings it home. Heaven will rejoice if our Good Friday service moves even one person to believe and learn about Jesus, or maybe they have heard but have strayed from the fold. I have spent most of my life teaching and had 3 rules or mantras that I tried to instill in my students: #1 – Follow the Golden Rule—treat others like you want to be treated. #2 – You will never be sorry if you do the right thing. #3 – Never say the word ‘hate’. Not bad advice but easier said than done, especially without the help of Jesus! Let’s tell this story of God’s love, sacrifice and forgiveness by participating in and attending the Fairbury Area Community Choir Good Friday service!/s/ Barb Bedlan, Fairbury
