Jeffs Lose Heartbreaker In OTIt was a tight contest at home for the Fairbury Jeffs as they hosted the Sandy Creek Cougars on Jan. 27 in boys basketball.Unfortunately for the home squad, the visitors came away with a 46-38 win.FHS was up 13-4 after one quarter and the teams were tied, 17-all at the half.Scoring didn’t pick up until the fourth quarter after FHS was down a point, 26-25 going into the fourth quarter. Sandy Creek outscored FHS 20-13 to close out the game.Senior Jonah Parrack led the Jeffs in scoring with 13 points and had four rebounds, one steal and a team high two blocks. Jerik Mans had 10 points, five boards for FHS while Brodie Prellwitz had seven points, six rebounds, three steals, two steals and a block with teammate James Martin finishing with four points, three rebounds and three assists.The Jeffs hosted Johnson County Central on Jan. 29 and lost an overtime thriller, 53-56.It was 12-all after one quarter and 25-24 at the half with FHS in the lead. A 10-8 third quarter set up a dramatic fourth with JCC outscoring FHS 15-12 to send it to overtime at 47-all. JCC outscored FHS 9-6 to win the contest.Brodie Prellwitz had 21 points, five rebounds, four assists to lead FHS while Jerik Mans had 12 points, six rebounds, one assist. Parrack had nine points, 11 rebounds, two assists, one steal for FHS while James Martin had six points, four rebounds, two assists. Trojans Win TwoTri County’s boys basketball team looked strong start to finish on Jan. 27 against Thayer Central, winning 53-26.It was 18-8 after one quarter in favor of Tri County and 25-16 at the half. Another 18-8 third quarter put the Titans in a bind and a 10-2 fourth quarter scoring output by Tri County put the game away.There simply was no answer for Tri County guard Drew Siems on defense. Siems lit up the Titans for a double double, scoring 33 points with 11 rebounds, four assists, five steals and one block.Siems shot 63 percent from the floor and the T.C. team shot 41 percent total, compared to 32 percent for Thayer. Siems was 7-of-9 from behind the three-point line. The Trojans had a 13-3 advantage in steals and Tri County only had eight turnovers, Thayer had 19.Jason Wehrman of Tri County had eight points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Henry Kapke had three points, three rebounds, five assists (team high) and three steals.For Thayer Central, Murphy Sudbeck had five points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal while Brady Degenhardt led Thayer in scoring with nine points. He had seven rebounds (team high) and Colton Kuhlmann had four points, six rebounds.On Jan. 30, the Trojans defeated Fillmore Central 50-32.Siems had another double double with 27 points, 14 rebounds and added three assists and four steals. Vossler had 14 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.The Titans defeated Centennial on Jan. 30, 45-39.Brady Degenhardt had a double double with 10 points, 10 rebounds for Thayer Central and Sudbeck had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Laken Wiedel had nine points, one rebound, three assists, one steal with Colton Kuhlmann had eight points, three boards, two assists with Petyon Hubl scoring seven points, three rebounds, two assists. Southern Faces Sacred HeartSouthern had troubles on defense in trying to stop Sacred Heart on Jan. 27. The Irish defeated the Raiders 90-45.Junior Paxx Adams and freshman Ethan Decker were standouts on offense for Southern. Adams had a double double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block. Decker had 12 points, one rebound, three assists and a steal. Weston Whitwer added seven points, three assists, one steal and one block for Southern. Blake Meece had six points, three boards and Jack Heard had four points, two boards.The Raiders had an off night on offense on Jan. 30, losing to Johnson-Brock, 38-62.Adams leads Southern in four statistical categories with 18.3 points per game, 10.1 rebounds a game, 4.1 assists per game and 2.8 steals per game. Griffins Down WildcatsThe Diller-Odell boys basketball team had an impressive win over Superior on Jan. 30, 60-44.The win gave the Griffins an 8-8 overall record.Jack Phillips averages 10.7 points per game for the Griffins while Xavier Zabokrtsky averages 2.4 assists per game and 1.7 steals per game. Peyton Humphreys averages 7.1 rebounds a game and Jacob Novotny averages .9 blocks per game to lead Diller-Odell statistically.Against Superior on Jan. 30, Diller-Odell won 60-44.It was a big night for Xavier Zabokrtsky as he led Diller-Odell with 20 points, two assists, four steals (team high) while Creyton Heidemann had 14 points, seven boards, one assist, one steal and one block. Griffin senior Jack Phillips had 11 points, one rebound, three assists, two steals while Peyton Humpries had five points, four rebounds, one steal and four assists (team high). Cale Clifford had five points, one rebound, three assists and one steal for Diller-Odell.Mustangs Lose By TwoMeridian lost a heartbreaker on Jan. 29 against Bruning-Davenport/Shickley, 42-44.Meridian was down 17-24 at the half and outscored BDS 25-20 in the fourth quarter, including a 17-9 fourth quarter, but was just shy of the win. Titans Win Over CentennialThayer Central’s boys basketball team picked up a win over Centennial on Jan. 30, 45-39. The Titans were up 13-5 after one quarter and held a 24-20 halftime lead. Both teams each scored nine points in the third quarter and a 12-10 fourth quarter kept the Titans in the lead.Senior Murphy Sudbeck had 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks for the Titans while fellow senior Brady Degenhardt finished with a double double with 10 points, 10 rebounds. Laken Wiedel added nine points, one rebound, three assists and a steal for Thayer Central with senior Colton Kuhlmann pitching in eight points, three rebounds, two assists. Peyton Hubl had seven points, three boards and two assists for the Titans. Wolverines Face MilfordMilford defeated Wilber-Clatonia on Jan. 30, 59-40. The Wolverines were competitive in the first half, down only by four at the half, 19-23. However, a 22-10 third quarter by Milford put pressure on W-C to rally and an 11-14 fourth wasn’t enough.Leading W-C in three stat categories is Jameson Conway: points per game (15.7), rebounds (6.4) and steals per game (1.7). Crew Pulliam averages 2.2 assists per game for W-C while Hayden Woerner averages .4 blocks per game.
