GirlsLady Jeffs Defeat W-CAgainst Fillmore Central on Feb. 2 in the opening round of the conference tourney, Fairbury lost 25-53 and was led in scoring by Micah Friesen with 11 points, nine rebounds, one assist, one steal while Evelyn Timmons had nine points, 12 rebounds, one assist, one steal and all of FHS’s blocks with five.Cambria Myers ended the game with three points, one rebound, one assist and one steal while Jordin Gill had one point, one rebound, two steals and two assists. Junior Alecia Bedlan had one point, two rebounds, one assist. Neveah Ortiz ended the night with five rebounds and an assist for FHS.On Feb. 7, the Lady Jeffs faced Wilber-Clatonia in the consolation bracket on Feb. 7.The Lady Jeffs won 51-33. Trojans Win By A PointSutton defeated Tri County in the opening round of the conference girls basketball tournament on Feb. 3. The Mustangs prevailed 41-37.It was 8-all after one quarter and 24-18 in favor of Sutton at the half. T.C. outscored Sutton 10-3 in the third quarter to start the fourth with the score being 28-27 in favor of the Trojans.Sutton outscored T.C. 14-9 in the fourth to win the game.Isabelle Peters had 10 points, five rebounds, two steals for T.C. and Claire Schnuelle had seven points, 12 rebounds, one assist and two steals. For Tri County, Brooke Morgan had seven points, five rebounds and Rylan Beerenstrauch had six points, six rebounds and a steal. Sayber Hoesche had three points, four rebounds, two steals and a block for the Lady Trojans.In the consolation round, the Trojans faced David City on Feb. 7, gaining a razor thin victory, 48-47. Southern Defeats HTRSIt is conference tournament season and the Southern Lady Raiders faced Lourdes Central Catholic in the first round on Feb. 2. The Raiders would drop the contest 43-49.Southern sophomore Hadlee Maxson led with 13 points, one assist, three teals and one block while Reece Barnard had 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.Gabby Burgess had eight points, one board while Jaylin Klover had eight points, 11 rebounds, two steals and one block. Southern senior Annika Glynn added five rebounds, two assists and two blocks (team high) to her totals.On Feb. 6, the Lady Raiders faced HTRS and lost 38-47.Barnard had 11 points for Southern. Griffins Fly Over JetsThe Lady Griffin basketball team started the conference tournament with a solid 44-29 win over Sterling on Feb. 2.The Griffins led 23-15 at the half and outscored Sterling 21-14 in the second half.Aidan McKinney had 16 points and Berkelee Beekman had 12 for Diller-Odell. Sidney Engelman had five points, three for Madilyn Dendinger and four for each for Hailee Miller and Jayna Novotny.Feb. 3, the Griffins faced Sacred Heart and lost 23-49.McKinney had seven points, six for Dendinger, four for Carly Meyerle and three points each for Miller and Novotny. Titans Drop TwoThe Thayer Central Titan girls basketball team had a solid opening round win in the conference tournament on Feb. 3, 37-20, over Centennial.The Lady Titans then faced Sandy Creek on Feb. 5 and lost a close game 38-41.Against Sutton for the third place title on Feb. 7, Thayer Central lost 46-54.Mustangs Lose PairMeridian was defeated by High Plains in the first round of the girls conference tournament on Feb. 3, 16-66.On Feb. 6, the Lady Mustangs lost to Osceola, 24-68. W-C Faces Lady JeffsOn Feb. 2, the Wilber-Clatonia girls basketball team started the conference tournament against Centennial and lost 33-51.The Wolverines faced Fairbury on Feb. 7 in the consolation bracket.
