M. Gene Priefert

M. Gene Priefert, 80, of Beatrice, passed away Sunday morning, February 22, 2026, at Beatrice Health and Rehab. He was born on January 13, 1946, in Fairbury to Earl and Gladys (Carter) Priefert. He attended school in Fairbury and received his GED. Gene served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 until 1968. On April 29, 1978, he married Audrey Collingham in Lincoln. Gene was a lineman/service tech for Lincoln Telephone for over 26 years and enjoyed target shooting and helping his brother on the farm. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Priefert of Beatrice; brothers, Marde (Jean) Priefert of Jansen and Bill Priefert of Omaha; brother-in-law, Dan Collingham of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Donna Collingham of Omaha and Mary (Merlin) Tupper of Glenwood, IA; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gladys Priefert; parents-in-law, Homer and Beulah Collingham; brother-in-law, Wayne Collingham. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Fox Funeral Home with Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Gene requested people wear their jeans to his service. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing but a book for signatures will be available on Thursday from noon until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Inurnment of the cremains will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice with military rites conducted by Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the Beatrice American Legion.
