Wymore Outlasts MeridianIt started out as a slow scoring affair. It was close to six minutes left in the first quarter before the first score happened but Southern’s boys basketball team outlasted Meridian on Feb. 24 at Wymore, 49-45.It was 11-2 after one quarter in favor of the Raiders, with Southern up 27-14 at the half.Meridian came back in the second half, outscoring Southern 31-22 in the second half, but didn’t have enough time to pull off the win.Paxx Adams led Southern with team high in points (19), rebounds (8), assists (6), steals ((4) and blocks (2).Ethan Decker had 11 points, four rebounds, two assists with Weston Whitwer adding 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Blake Meece had four points, two rebounds, Hunter Pollman had three points, one board and two assists. Jack Heard had two points for Southern.For Meridian, senior Landon Peterson had a double double with 10 points, 11 rebounds with one assist. Chase Schafer had nine points, one rebound, one block while Maddox Haake had eight points, four rebounds, three assists. Beau Bartels led the team with six assists with five points and six rebounds. Braxton Davis had five points, two rebounds and one assist.For Meridian, Christian Guenther had six points, two rebounds and Jayton Jones had two points, six rebounds and two assists.The Raiders faced BDS on Feb. 26 for the sub-district crown at Wymore.BDS was able to get by Southern, 64-36. Milford Defeats JeffsOn Feb. 24, the Fairbury boys basketball team traveled to Cozad for sub-district basketball action and came up short against Milford, 35-52.Jonah Parrack led the Jeffs with 16 point, three rebounds and one steal while James Martin had eight points, one rebound and two steals (team high). Brodie Prellwitz had four points, three re-bounds, three assists, one steal and one block.CJ Goeking had three points, one rebound, one assist while Jacob Nippert had two points, seven rebounds, two assists and a team high three blocks. Jerik Mans had two points, three rebounds and three assists. Trojans Lose In District FinalsOn Feb. 24, the Tri County Trojans (20-5) faced Cornerstone Christian (12-7) in sub-district action at Bergan Catholic. The Trojans cruised to a 54-35 win and faced Bergan Catholic (23-1) in the sub-district finals on Feb. 26.The Trojans lost to Bergan, 42-53.On Feb. 28, the Trojans qualified to face Norfolk Catholic at Norfolk on Feb. 28 in the C2-8 District final.The Trojans fell to the Knights, 50-58. Griffins Lose Tight GameThe Diller-Odell boys basketball team caught fire at the right time. The Griffins faced Lewiston in the first round of the sub-district tourney at Falls City Sacred Heart.The Griffins won 60-39.Freshman Creighton Heidemann had 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and three blocks in the contest while senior Jack Phillips had 10 points, one board, three assists, five steals. Jacob Novoty had eight points, four boards, one steal and a team high four blocks while Jake Behrends had six points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block. Cale Fliffod had five points, seven rebounds, one assist and four steals for the Griffins.The Griffins faced Falls City Sacred Heart on Feb. 26 for the sub-district title.Falls City Sacred Heart won in a nail-biting contest, 64-62.Heidemann led the Griffins with 19 points, five rebounds while Phillips had 18 points, six re-bounds, three assists and one steal. Xavier Zabokrtsky ended the night with 11 points, six re-bounds, three assists and one steal. Peyton Humphreys had six points, five rebounds, a team high four assists and a steal. Jake Behrends had four points, four rebounds and two assists for the Griffins. Titans Lose In OTBy a single point the Thayer Central boys basketball team missed the chance to go to OT against H&H on Feb. 23 at Alma in sub-district action.The Titans lost 43-44.The Titans were up 24-16 at the half and held a 34-29 lead going into the fourth quarter. How-ever, H&H outscored the Titans 15-9 to steal the win.Senior Murphy Sudbeck had 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks while Brady Degenhardt added 13 points, five rebounds. Colton Kuhlmann had six points, four boards, one steal and Laken Wiedel had five points, four rebounds and an assist. Wolverines Lose In Sub-DistrictsBroken Bow defeated Wilber-Clatonia 70-42 in sub-district action on Feb. 23 at Grand Island CC.The Wolverines were hanging tough with Broken Bow until a 30-12 third quarter put the game out of reach for W-C.Jameson Conway led W-C with a huge game, scoring 21 points and had five rebounds, three assists.Sophomore Crew Pulliam had 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.RJ Klaassen had five points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
