Calvary Cemetery to Receive Grant for New Fence

Father Loras Grell, pastor at St. Mary in Wymore, and the cemetery and advisory boards, recently applied for and received a Morris Estate grant to replace the existing fence at Calvary Cemetery in Wymore.The current white stone wall will be removed, and a new wrought iron fence will be installed. The award is as follows: “On behalf of the Morris Estate and the Gage County Foundation, St. Mary’s Calvary Cemetery has been selected as a recipient of funding from the Morris Estate Grant in its December 2025 Cycle. The Board voted to award your organization a grant in the amount of $25,000.00 to support your proposed project, as outlined in your application.” Father Grell told FJN, “The current white stone wall has weathered over the years, so this grant comes at a great time to replace it. -We knew that the Wymore City Cemetery, which is adjacent to Calvary, is putting in a new fence, so ours will make for a uniform and dignified look to the frontage of both cemeteries. Calvary Cemetery is holy ground, as the final resting place for many souls from St. Mary's for over a hundred years. Without this grant, the fence project could not have easily moved forward, as we have a dwindling congregation from which to fundraise. We are excited to see the fence go up, and we are so grateful to the Morris Estate for helping make it happen.
