Alfred Brejcha is First Veteran of the Month for 2025

By Kimberly BrejchaAlfred P. Brejcha was honored as Jefferson County’s first Veteran of the Month for the new year by county commissioners on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. In addition, he was also presented with a Quilt of Valor and a patriotic art piece created by Rory Roesener.Brejcha was born on March 11, 1955, at the hospital in Fairbury. He lived on the farm with his parents, Alfred and Joan Brejcha, one older sister and three younger brothers who farmed approximately 260 acres of ground. He graduated from Wilber-Clatonia Public Schools in January, 1974.On February 13, 1974, Brejcha joined the United States Marine Corps. He attended basic training in San Diego, California and completed his Military Occupational Specialty Training (MOS) 3111, Small Arms Repair, at the Mead, Maryland, Training Center. He was then stationed at HQ MAG26, MCAS, New River Air Station at Jacksonville, North Carolina. During his three year period at Jacksonville, Brejcha served on two deployments. The first was a three month deployment to the North Sea, on the USS Colorado Landing Platform Dock (LPD). Then in the summer 1976, he served a six month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea on the USS Iwo Jima LPD. He was then discharged as a Corporal on February 11, 1977. After discharge from the Marines, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Debra Kay, on March 31, 1979.On January 4, 1984, Brejcha joined the US Army and attended basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. After completing his MOS (11C) training for a mortarman, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, with the 1st CAV as a mortar crew man. Then in June of 1985, he received a transfer to the 167th INFANTRY LIGHT BRIGADE in Anchorage, Alaska, at Fort Richardson. While stationed in Alaska, he had his eldest daughter, Jessica Brejcha, on May 1, 1986. On May 1, 1989, Brejcha joined the Nebraska Army National Guard as a Readiness NCO for Combat Support Company, 2/134th Inf, Crete/Fairbury, NE. This is where Brejcha was blessed with his middle child, Kimberly Brejcha, on December 28, 1989, and his youngest daughter, Amber Brejcha, on December 18, 1992. On October 1, 1994, he was then transferred to Trp A, 1/167 CAV, Nebraska City, NE, where he retired October 31, 2001. Brejcha then got a job with the Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office in Lincoln as an Administrative Assistant for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment. On April 30, 2019, while employed there, he became a grandfather for the first time. He retired after 17 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Brejcha now lives in Fairbury with his wife of 45 years and his oldest daughter. He enjoys his retirement doing what he loves: fishing, spending time with the love of his life, and is assisting with his grandchildren Lyndlee Brejcha, age 10, and Emerson Wilson, age four.
