The sound of the wooden bat hitting a baseball is a timeless sound any fan of baseball knows all-to -well and for some teams early in the season it’s a great reminder to why they play the sport in the beginning. Of To A Hot StartFor Tri County Seniors the season couldn’t have started out any better with a (4-0) record, after going 2-0 by winning a high scoring affair 12-11 at home against Hebron on May 30 and the next day on May 31 had another solid night of offense with a 15-5 win on the road against Geneva.The hot start for Tri County kept going with a 9-0 start by winning the Wilber Wood Bat Tournament.Tri County was able to bounce back from early mistakes in the first game against Crete completing the comeback for a 5-3 win on June 2.Against Tecumseh on Saturday against Tecumseh, Tri County won 7-3. Tri County pulled off another late run against Marysville winning 9-7 and with seven runs coming from the third and fourth inning defeated Wilber in the championship game 9-3.Carter Siems led the team going three for four scoring two runs, while Dusty Kapke and Caden Bales each had multiple hits as well with Kapke going two-for-three, with one double, and driving in two RBI. As Bales would lead the team with three RBI as he went two-for-four, Pierce Damrow, Colton Bales, and Cooper Stokebrand each contributed one hit as well.Stokebrand’s one hit was a double managing to bring in his one RBI.Toeing the mound for Tri County was Colton Bales going five and one-third innings surrendering five hits, on three runs with four walks and five strikeouts.Wilber Hosts Wood Bat TournamentThe Wilber Senior Legion started the season on a high note with a record of (3-1) as they suffered their first loss last Friday 2-7 against Tri County at home.Wilber bounced back on the road May 31 by grabbing the 8-4 victory against Wymore.Wilber comes up just short in their Wilber Wood Bat Tournament finishing runner-up as they lost 3-9 to Tri County.Though not the desired results, Wilber had a good tournament with great steps taken in their season as they would start the tournament off with a solid team victory as Wilber needed four pitchers to get the 4-0 shutout victory against Geneva in the first round.Pushed on in the second round, Wilber earned a 6-4 victory against Wymore.Ozzie Smith led the team with three RBI as he went two-for-three with the two hits being doubles, and Karsen Fisher also had collected multiple hits going two-for-three as well.Wilber moved onward to take on Marysville getting the early lead and never looking back on the 5-2 victory.Coy Rosentreader was on the mound going seven innings allowing six hits, two runs, three walks and five strikeouts in the victory and led the team going two-for-three with one home run, finishing with three RBI and one walk on the offensive side. Wilber would only manage five hits against Tri County in the 3-9 loss with Ozzie Smith leading the team going two-for-three. Tyson Kreshel suffered the loss going three-and-one third-innings allowing nine hits, eight runs, having eight strikeouts and two walks.Wilber will be looking to bounce back as they take to the road against Hebron next Wednesday, June 14. Wymore Up And Down On OffenseWymore Seniors have a mixed bag of results in the first few games in the season as they stand at a record of (2-3). This week has been a struggle for the offensive side to get going as Wymore would drop two straight as they would lose on the road against Marysville 1-8 on May 30 and then following day would lose 4-8 to Wilber at home.Wymore Seniors competed at the Wilber Wood Bat Tournament from June 2 through June 4 going 1-2.Wymore was shut out in the first game 0-9 against Tecumseh on Friday, but would bounce back with a walk-off victory 7-6 as Kale Maguire singled on a 0-2 count scoring the needed run.Tj Vitosh started things on the mound going four-and-two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out two.Wymore was able to get six hits with Tayten Belding and Alex Wenzbauer each going two-for-three with one RBI and one double.Unfortunately Wymore would drop their next game in a tough loss to Wilber with a final score of 4-6.Hebron Faces Tri CountyHebron Seniors showing life, but off to slow start in the season going 0-2 as they suffer a hard loss on the road 11-12 against Tri County May 30 and then at home on May 31 would lose 3-8 against the Fairbury Landsharks Seniors. Landsharks Gain WinFairbury Landsharks Seniors advance to (3-4) as they bounced back from the previous week with a solid win on the road against Hebron Seniors as the Landsharks hold off the late push and winning 8-3 on May 31.
