BoysGriffins Win One, Lose OneThe Diller-Odell boys basketball team defeated Meridian on Dec. 29, 59-36.The trio of Peyton Humphreys, Xavier Zabokrstky and Jack Phillips led the Griffins. Phillips had 14 points, six rebounds and two steals.Zabokrtsky had 13 points, one rebound, two assists and two steals while Humphreys had 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists (team high) and two steals with a block.Jacob Novotny and Creyton Heidemann each had two blocks for the Griffins. Novotny had four points, eight rebounds and Heidemann had five points, three boards and two assists.Deshler edged Diller-Odell on Jan. 2, 39-35.The Griffins were down 13-19 at the half and after the third quarter, Deshler was up 32-20 after three quarters. The Griffins outscored the Dragons 15-7 in the fourth to attempt a comeback but couldn’t quite make it work. Jeffs Have Great Tour Of KansasFacing Valley Heights on Dec. 30, the Fairbury Jeffs easily won 66-31.The Jeffs were up 20-8 after one quarter and really turned up the offense and defense in the second quarter, up 22-4 in the quarter and held a 44-12 lead at the half.FHS outscored Valley Heights 24-19 in the second half.Four different Jeffs had over 10 points. James Martin lit up the Mustangs for 16 points, one rebound, one assist, three steals. Brodie Prellwitz had 12 points, three boards, three assists and two steals while Jonah Parrack had 11 points, two boards, two assists, one steal and a team high two blocks. Jacob Nippert had a double double for the Jeffs with 11 points, 13 rebounds, five assists (team high) and two steals.Drew Kroeker had five points, five boards, one assist, two steals and one block. Adrian Lightner had five points, one board and three steals.The Jeffs then faced Washington County on Dec. 31 and picked up another easy win, going over 54-34.A 22-6 third quarter scoring output put the Jeffs up for good.Leading the scoring for FHS was Brodie Prellwitz, scoring 21 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Goeking had 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a team high six steals. Martin had eight points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal. Jerik Mans had eight points, two assists, one rebound and one steal. Jacob Nippert had three steals, one assist, six rebounds and four points. Trojans Have Two Easy WinsThe Tri County Trojans ended the year with a win over the Sacred Heart Irish, winning 74-51, on Dec. 31.After going up 17-9, the Trojans outscored Sacred Heart 39-24 in the second half.Zach Vossler had 22 points to lead Tri County and added nine rebounds and two assists.Drew Siems ended the game nearly with a triple double. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals.Jason Wehrman had 14 points, four rebounds and one steal, while Trevor Kapke had 11 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.On Jan. 2, the Trojans won 58-22 over Centennial.The Trojans went up 23-3 after one quarter and held a 41-8 lead at the half. The rest was an easy cruise as the Trojans outscored the Broncos 17-14 in the second half.Titans Edged, Then Edge TeamThayer Central lost to Frankfort, Kan., on Dec. 30, 34-45. Linn, Kan., slipped by Thayer Central on Dec. 31 by a point, 47-46.The Titans then slipped by Superior on Jan. 3, 46-45. Meridian Drops To HTRSMeridian lost to Deshler on Dec. 30, 23-66.Then on Jan. 3, the Mustangs lost to HTRS 41-50. The Mustangs were up 12-7 after one quarter and was down 16-18 at the half. Meridian pulled ahead with a 15-11 third quarter to lead 31-29 going into the fourth quarter.However, a 21-10 fourth quarter by HTRS put the Titans ahead for good. Raiders Defeat Weeping WaterOn Dec. 29, the Southern Raider basketball team lost to HTRS, 47-53. Southern was up 26-22 at the half, but a 31-21 second half let the Titans win.The Raiders then won on Dec. 30 over Weeping Water, 56-52.The Raiders were down 13-17 at the half and a 26-19 fourth quarter gave the Raiders the ‘W.’Wolverines Defeat Wood River By ThreeOn Dec. 29, the W-C boys basketball team lost to McCool Junction, 47-57.On Dec. 30, the Wolverines defeated Wood River, 54-51.The Wolverines were up 28-24 at the half. Wood River outscored W-C 14-9 in the third quarter to set up 37-36 in favor of the Wolverines going into the fourth quarter. W-C outscored Wood River 17-13 in the fourth quarter. GirlsGriffins Have Big WinThe defense led to offense on Dec. 29 for the Diller-Odell girls basketball team. They defeated Meridian at Meridian 52-13.The Lady Griffins led 12-0 after one quarter and 28-5 at the half. Not stopping, Diller-Odell outscored Meridian 24-8 in the second half.Hailee Miller had 14 points for the Griffins while Berkelee Beekman had 11 points. Aidan McKinney finished with eight points and Madisyn Rosebaugh and Madilyn Dendinger each had five points. Nine different Griffin players scored in the contest.The Griffins lost to Deshler on Jan. 2, 39-45.Beekman had 22 points, Miller eight, McKinney four, Rosebaugh three and Carly Meyerle and Jayna Novotny each had one point.Jeffs Down Washington CountyOn Dec. 31, the Fairbury girls basketball team defeated Washington County, Kan., with the final being 51-35. Wolverines Drop TwoOn Dec. 29, the W-C girls basketball team lost 46-54 to McCool Junction.Brynn Zajicek led W-C with 24 points and Kariss Rosenthal had 15 points. Zajicek had five rebounds, two assists and a steal, Rosenthal had five rebounds, one assist and two steals.Gabby Vlcan had four rebounds and five assists with one steal.On Jan. 3, the Wolverines lost to Palmyra 32-37. T.C. ‘Steals’ WinThe Tri County girls basketball team lost to Freeman on Dec. 30. After being down 15-27, the Trojans outscored Freeman 27-21 but couldn’t get the comeback completed.Macey Gronemeyer had 15 points, three rebounds, three assist and one steal while Rylan Beerenstrauch had nine points, three rebounds, four assists (team high) and three steals. Leading the Trojans in steals with nine was Sage Holtmeier with seven points, seven rebounds and three assists.Tri County faced Sacred Heart on Dec. 31.On Jan. 2, the Trojans defeated Centennial, 46-31.The Broncos were up 11-8 after one quarter and the Trojans were up 22-21 at the half. A 15-6 third quarter put the Broncos in the hole and Tri County closed it out with a 9-4 fourth quarter.Isabelle Peters had 11 points, one rebound, four assists and team high five steals.Rylan Beerenstracuh had 10 points, three rebounds, one assist and four steals while Claire Schnuelle had 10 points, four rebounds, one assist and three steals.The Trojans had 21 steals in the game.Sayber Hoesche had four points, one rebound, one assist, two steals and three blocks for Tri County.Meridian Drops TwoMeridian’s girls basketball team lost to Deshler on Dec. 30, 22-64.On Jan. 2, Meridian lost 22-54 to Thayer Central. Raiders RollingPicking up two wins on back-to-back days was the Wymore Southern Lady Raiders.On Dec. 29, Wymore defeated Falls City 37-15 and then defeated Conestoga 41-30.Against Falls City, Hadlee Maxson and Jaylin Klover each had 10 points. Klover finished with a double double with 10 rebounds and had one assist and two steals. Maxson had two boards, one assists and a team high seven steals. With one block.Reece Barnard had four points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.Annika Glynn had six points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal with one block.Against Conestoga on Dec. 30, Southern won 41-30.The Raiders defeated Meridian Jan. 2, 54-22. Titans WinStaying strong, the Thayer County Titans defeated Frankfort, Kan., by 37 points, 44-7.On Dec. 31, the Titans downed the Linn, Kan., Bulldogs, 62-51.On Jan. 3, the Titans downed Superior 63-16.
