BoysTrojans Battle JeffsIt was a pretty even battle throughout, but the Fairbury Jeffs boys basketball team came away with a road win against Diller-Odell on Jan. 6, 53-40, with even scoring throughout the game and a solid third quarter output.Both teams were tied at 15-all after one quarter and the Griffins held a one-point lead, 22-21 at the half. In the third quarter, FHS outscored Diller-Odell 19-8 to take a 40-30 lead into the fourth quarter. The Jeffs outscored the Griffins 13-10 to secure the win.The star on offense for the Jeffs was Brodie Prellwitz with 19 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.CJ Goeking had a solid night with six points, 10 rebounds, eight defensive boards, four assists (team high), two steals (team high) and block.Adrian Lightner had five points and one board while Jonah Parrack had three points, seven boards and a block for the Jeffs.The Jeffs hosted Tri County on Jan. 8. The two teams were evenly matched at the start of the game but the Trojans pulled away to win 59-41.T.C. was up 11-2 after one quarter and held a 28-17 lead at the half. The Trojans outscored FHS 20-10 in the third quarter and the Jeffs outscored T.C. 14-11 in the fourth quarter.It was a guards night, as Drew Siems of the Trojans had a double double with 27 points, 10 rebounds with three assists and six steals.T.C. had 11 team steals, FHS had seven. T.C. also had a 36-24 rebound advantage, including a 12-2 offensive rebound advantage.Zach Vossler had 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists (team high), two steals and a block.For FHS, James Martin had 18 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Brodie Prellwitz had 10 points, one board and two steals (team high). Jonah Parrack had three points, six rebounds, one assist and a team high three blocks. Southern Face WolverinesThere wasn’t a problem with Southern’s offense on Jan. 6. The Raiders posted 47 points, however, the Freeman Falcons were flying high on offense and posted 74.Southern averages 47.1 points per game, and Freeman averages 57.1.Against Exeter-Milligan/Friend on Jan. 8, the Raiders lost 50-85.Facing Wilber-Clatonia on Jan. 10, the Raiders pulled out a 48-45 win. After one quarter, Southern was up 12-9 but an 18-14 second quarter put Wymore up 30-23 at the half.W-C outscored Southern 13-8 in the third quarter, leading to a 38-36 lead for Southern. The Raiders outscored the Wolverines 10-9 in the fourth quarter to win the game. Trojans Drop To EMFTri County suffered a loss to Exeter-Milligan/Friend on Jan. 6 in boys basketball, 58-74.Mustangs Win Over LewistonNever giving up, the Meridian boys basketball team pulled away from Lewiston on Jan. 6, 40-34.The Tigers were up 12-6 after one quarter and held a 24-19 lead at the half.A 6-3 third quarter in favor of Meridian set the table for the fourth quarter for the Mustangs.Meridian outscored Lewiston 15-7 in the final stanza to get the win.Against McCool Junction on Jan. 8, the Mustangs lost 29-68.Shelby-Rising City defeated Meridian 56-49. Titans Face DragonsThe offense sputtered for Thayer Central on Jan. 6 against Deshler and the Dragons won 58-29.Laken Wiedel had 12 points, five rebounds for Thayer Central while teammate Colton Kuhlmann had six points, eight rebounds and two assists. Blake Gunn had the lone steal for Thayer Central in the contest. W-C Drops TwoSyracuse defeated the Wilber-Clatonia boys basketball team on Jan. 6, 70-47.It was a come-from-behind win for Johnson County Central on Jan. 8 against the W-C boys basketball team.JCC won 53-50.W-C was up 15-12 after one quarter and held a 27-18 lead at the half. JCC climbed slightly back into the game by outscoring W-C 18-15 in the third quarter, with the final quarter starting with W-C up 42-36. The Thunderbirds outscored the Wolverines 17-8 in the fourth quarter to win the game.
