Jeffs Can’t Overcome PanthersConsistent play from Fillmore Central gave the Panthers a 21-12 victory over the Fairbury Jeffs on the gridiron Friday night (Sept. 5).Fairbury was down 6-7 in the first quarter and that was where the score stayed until the third quarter when Fillmore Central went up 14-6. The Jeffs scored six in the fourth but the Panthers tacked on one more TD to keep FHS at arm’s length. Titans Win By 66Thayer Central’s football team may want to change their name from Titans to Juggernauts as Thayer Central ran through Centennial Friday night, 66-0.It was 16-0 after one quarter and 44-0 at the half. Thayer posted another 16-point quarter in the third and slowed down for only six points in the fourth.Laken Wiedel took the helm of the offense at quarterback and went 5-of-7 for 83 yards and one touchdown.Top receiver was Murphy Sudbeck with two catches for 40 yards while teammate Peyton Hubl was right behind him with two catches for 39 yards.Brady Degenhardt was a beast on the ground for the Titans, racking up 123 yards rushing on 16 carries. Wiedel had 107 yards rushing on 10 tries while Jaxon Krupicka had 32 yards rushing. Owen McLaughlin had 15 yards on the ground for the Titans and Carson McLaughlin had 11.Cole Vorderstrasse continued his senior season on defense by pushing back opposing players, getting one sack for a six yard loss. Vorderstrasse had two solo tackles on the night. Degenhardt had six total tackles, including five solo while Kaleb Bonar had three solo and three assisted stops against Centennial. Colton Kuhlmann had five tackles, one solo and four assisted for Thayer Central. Kuhlmann recovered a fumble in the game as well.Defensively, the Titans held Centennial to -13 yards on the night and had 69 total yards for the game while Thayer Central posted 373 total yards. Crusaders Blank W-CWilber-Clatonia could not get the offense going Sept. 5 against Lincoln Christian as the Crusaders cruised to a 47-0 win.Tri County Drops To FreemanOutside of one bad quarter, Tri County was in the game against Freeman on Sept. 5 on the football field at home but lost 22-39.Freeman was up 8-7 after one quarter in a tight contest and at the half, Freeman was up 16-14.However, in the second half, Freeman outscored T.C. 23-0 and took 39-14 lead. T.C. had eight points in the fourth.Sophomore quarterback for Tri County, Trevor Kapke was 10-of-20 for 116 yards and one touchdown.Zachary Vossler had 79 yards receiving on seven catches while Owen Lewandowski had 21 yards on one catch.Top rusher for the Trojans was Lewandowski with 99 yards on 21 carries while Garrett Smidt with 64 yards on the ground. Kapke had 29 yards on 14 carries.Unfortunately, Tri County had five fumbles lost in the game.Top defender for the Trojans is Zachary Vossler with 11 (four solo, seven assisted).
