Lady Jeffs Host Sandy Creek, JCCThe Fairbury Lady Jeffs had some ups and downs on offense on Jan. 27 against Sandy Creek, dropping the contest 31-64.A competitive second and third quarter was overshadowed by a 21-4 first quarter and a 14-5 fourth quarter.FHS junior Evelyn Timmons led the offense for the Lady Jeffs with nine points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks (all team highs).Micah Friesen had eight points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block while Alecia Bedlan scored six points with four rebounds and two assists.Jordin Gill had four points, two boards, one assist and one steal.The Lady Jeffs hosted Johnson County Central on Jan. 29 and lost 32-59.The contest started off even, 17-15 after one quarter with JCC in the lead. An 11-8 second quarter put the Thunderbirds up 28-23 at the half.A 31-9 second half in favor of JCC led to the victory for the Thunderbirds.Evenlyn Timmons and Micah Friesen provided the offensive firepower for FHS. Timmons had 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists, four steals, with five blocks (all team highs) and only one turnover.Friesen had 13 points, one rebound, one assist, one steal and two blocks. Tri County Face TitansThayer Central’s girls basketball team defeated Tri County, 48-39, on Jan. 27. The win took the Titans to 15-2 overall on the season while T.C. dropped to 12-6.For Tri County freshman Claire Schnuelle had 20 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal while Rylan Beerenstrauch had nine points, six rebounds, five steals (team high) and two locks (team high). Sage Holtmeier had five boards, one assist and three steals while Isabelle Peters added four assists and two steals. Brooke Morgan had eight rebounds (team high) for T.C. and one steal.Thayer Central then defeated Centennial on Jan. 30, 41-32.Tri Couty faced Fillmore Central on Jan. 30 and won 56-34.Beerenstrauch had 14 points for Tri County, with one assist and one steal while Peters had a double double with 10 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, one block and a team high six steals. Morgan had 10 points, five rebounds, one steal and Meila Gronemeyer six points, eight rebounds, one assist and five steals. Southern Has Close Contest With Sacred HeartSouthern’s girls basketball team lost a tight game to Sacred Heart on Jan. 27, 31-37.It was 13-9 in favor of the Irish after one period and 18-15 at the half with Sacred Heart leading. In the second half, Sacred Heart held off a surging Southern, 11-6 in the third quarter but lost the battle of the fourth quarter, 8-10 to Southern.Southern sophomore Jaylin Klover scored 10 points with three rebounds and an assist while Reece Barnard had six points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal for the Raiders.Annika Glynn had five points, four boards, one assist with Emma Eisenhauer scoring four points, six rebounds with two steals.Johnson-Brock was able to get a win over Southern on Jan. 30 with the help of a 21-10 first quarter. Southern outscored the Eagles 16-15 in the second quarter to put the score at 36-26 in favor of Johnson-Brock. A 15-13 third quarter kept Southern competitive but a 10-11 fourth wasn’t enough for the win and the Lady Raiders lost 51-60. Griffins Top WildcatsIt was a superior win for the Diller-Odell Lady Griffin basketball team on Jan. 30, defeating Superior 40-37.The Lady Griffins were down 9-12 after one quarter and 14-21 at the half.A 14-12 third quarter put the Griffins down 28-33 going into the fourth quarter. It was in the fourth quarter that Diller-Odell came up bit, scoring 12 points, holding Superior to four.The combo of Aidan McKinney and Hailee Miller came up big for the Griffins. McKinney had 15 points, and Miller 11 points. Berkelee Beekman had seven points and Jayna Novotny five. Sidney Engelman had two points for the Griffins. W-C Drops To MilfordMilford defeated W-C on Jan. 30, 62-23.Leading W-C this season is Brynn Zajicek (points per game, 15.1); Kariss Rosenthal (rebounds per game, 6.4; steals per game, 1.8); Gabby Vlcan (assists per game, 2.3) and Lilly Homolka (blocks per game, 1.0).
