Fairbury Hosts TournamentFairbury’s offense looked good on Sept 2 at home against Crete on the softball diamond, however, Crete’s offense looked just a bit better.Crete won 19-6 in three innings. The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. In the second inning the Lady Jeffs put up six runs, however, allowed nine for Crete. The Cardinals posted seven runs in the third to put the game out of reach.Autumn L’Ecuyer had a home run in the game, with two hits and four RBI for Fairbury. Iaunna Lucking and Cambria Myers each had one hit and Jordin Gill had one hit and one RBI with Logan Wentz providing one RBI.To kick off the Fairbury tournament on Saturday, Sept 6, the Lady Jeffs lost to Milford, 3-11.Iaunna Lucking had one hit and one RBI as did Jordin Gill. Logan Wentz had one hit for FHS and Cambria Myers had one hit and one RBI.Gill, Wentz and Myers each had a double in the contest.Kate Hynek had four strikeouts on the mound for FHS.In the next round against Fillmore Central, the Jeffs offense came out on fire, scoring eight runs in the first inning and gave up two runs. FHS would go on to win 13-8.Leading the offense was Jordin Gill with three hits and four RBI. Rylie Kapke had two hits as did Autumn L’Ecuyer.Senior Molly Hansmire had two hits and two RBI for FHS while Iaunna Lucking had two RBI with Kate Hynek finishing with one RBI for FHS. Logan Wentz had one hit, one RBI.Gill had a double in the contest.Kate Hynek had three strikeouts in the game pitching for FHS.To finish out the tournament, FHS lost to Centennial 1-11.Cambria Myers had one RBI for Fairbury. W-C Wins ThrillerThe Wilber-Clatonia Wolverine softball team defeated Milford 7-5 on Sept. 2 in an exciting game.Both teams were tied at 1-all after one inning and Wilber jumped out to a 2-1 lead after three innings. Both teams stayed stagnant until the sixth when W-C scored five runs and held Milford to four.Aria Polite had a triple in the game for W-C and posted two hits and one RBI. Millie Bates had two hits, Kariss Rosenthal had a double with two RBI while Peyton Mischnick had two hits and two RBI for W-C. Claire Watson had a hit and Korrina Paulsen had two hits for the Wolverines.On the mound for W-C, Rosenthal posted 10 strikeouts to help earn the win for the Wolverines.Facing Auburn on Sept. 4, the Wolverines lost 5-10.Auburn had a 4-0 lead at the start of the fourth and W-C made things interesting, scoring three runs while Auburn added one run. However, a 5-2 fifth inning by Auburn put things out of reach for W-C.Leading the Wolverines on offense was Hayven Kropp with two hits, three RBI. Aria Polite had two hits, two RBI and Kariss Rosenthal had two hits, including a double. Rosenthal had two strikeouts on the mound for W-C. SDO Wins High Scoring ContestSouthern-Diller/Odell (SDO) was in an offensive battle on Sept. 4 but prevailed 12-11.SDO was up 2-1 after one inning and down 3-2 after two innings. Fillmore Central kept the lead with a 4-3 lead going into the fourth inning. In the fourth, SDO tied the contest at four-all. Fillmore went up 5-4 in the fifth inning and was up 6-5 going into the seventh inning.Both squads had the offense running hot in the seventh inning and SDO scored six runs and Fillmore Central five, to have the game knotted at 11-all going into the final stages of the contest.The game went into the ninth inning and SDO won the battle of wills, scoring the go-ahead run to win the contest.Reece Barnard led SDO with five hits on the day, knocking in four RBI, with three doubles and a homerun.Azlynn Stevens had two hits, two RBI and Mya Frase had three hits, two RBI for SDO. Madisyn Rosebaugh had two hits and Hailee Miller one for SDO.Reegan Lauby had three strikeouts for SDO on the mound.Raymond Central gained a win over SDO on Sept. 6, 11-3.Reece Barnard had two hits and Mya Frase and Hailee Miller each had a hit. Scarlett Steensnes had one hit, two RBI for SDO.Hailee Miller and Reegan Lauby each had a double for SDO. Frase and Barnard each had two stolen bases.Reegan Lauby had one strikeout for SDO pitching.Undaunted, SDO had an explosive game against Falls City, winning 11-0.SDO was up 5-0 after one inning and never looked back, scoring two runs in the second inning and four in the third to end things early.Barnard had two hits, two RBI while Frase had one hit, three RBI with Madisyn Rosebaugh pitching in one hit, one RBI. Frase had a double for SDO while Barnard put up a home run.Lauby had four strikeouts pitching for SDO.Syracuse picked up a 6-2 win over SDO to round out the weekend. Syracuse was up 2-1 in the second inning and SDO tied the game in the fourth. In the sixth inning, however, Syracuse went up for good with a four-run inning.Frase had three hits for SDO and Lauby had two hits, two RBI.Also picking up hits for SDO were Rosebaugh, Barnard, Hailee Miller and Steensnes.Frase, Lauby and Steensnes each had a double.Lauby had two strikeouts for SDO.
