Area Teams Start Summer Baseball Season

Tri County Picks Up Decisive WinsTri County held off the late push from Wymore to get the 11-5 win at home on Thursday, May 25. Having racked up 11 hits, Tri County was led by Caden Bales going three-for-four, one of those being a double, along with three RBI to lead the team.Carter Siems and Colton Bales were also able to get multiple hits going two-for-three as they each scored two runs and brought in one RBI. Braiden Strouf, Pierce Damrow, Cael Washburn and Andrew Harvey each contributed a hit as well. Dusty Kapke was on the mound getting the win only allowing four hits and zero runs over four-and-a-third innings while striking out nine with one walk.Tri County was able to continue with the momentum at Wilber on Friday, May 26 securing a 7-2 victory. Carter Siems was on the mound for Tri County going six-and-two-thirds innings allowing two runs on three hits and striking out nine in the outing.Siems was able to lead the team going three-for-four with three RBI and one run scored. Cael Washburn was able to go one-for-two with two RBI and three stolen bases. Caden Bales Bradyen Strouf, and Drew Siems each contributed one hit as well.Beginning on Friday (June 2) Tri County will be gearing up for a wooden bat tournament at Wilber as that will run through Sunday, June 4. Wymore Earns Come-From-Behind WinFor Wymore, Kale Maguire was on the mound going five innings allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out six and walking zero in the 5-11 loss on Thursday, May 25 to Tri County. Connor Hroch would come in for relief.Wymore would have a total of seven hits with Maguire leading the charge going three-for-four bringing in one RBI. Braydin Wendland, Chance Swearingen, Alex Wenzbauer, and TJ Vitosh each contributed one hit as well.Wymore bounced back by making the comeback and holding on for a 6-5 win against Adams on Saturday, May 27. Wymore racked up seven hits with Tayten Belding, Vitosh and Wenzbauer each had multiple hits going two-for-four. Belding was credited with the win lasting four innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one. Wymore will have a couple of days of rest as they prepare for the Wilber Wood Bat Tournament that will be running Friday through Sunday. Landsharks Runners-Up At TourneyThe Fairbury Landshark Seniors competed in the Fairbury Wood Bat Tournament finishing runner-up as they lost in 3-12 against Seward for the championship game winner-take-all round.Fairbury had a mixed bag of results from the weekend with a 4-2 victory against Sutton on Friday, pushed on with that momentum into a 6-1 victory against Seward on Saturday and had the chance for the tournament to end but took their first loss 4-11 to push on the winner-take-all.
