Athletes Prepare For State Track And Field

A whole host of area athletes will be going to Omaha for the state track and field starting today (May 18). Class B-7 Districts:Fairbury:With Tuesday, May 10 coming and going Fairbury Jeffs track will be sending four athletes to state track with Jami Mans and Emily Huss being able to qualify in the 100m hurdles, Devon Carel in the 400m dash, and Alex Buxton was able to punch his ticket to state by taking first and becoming Class B-7 District champion running the time :15.75. Class D-1 Districts: Meridian and Diller-OdellMeridian:The Meridian Mustangs girls had a strong season from start and to finish as they became D-1 District track meet champions on Thursday, May 12 at Pawnee City.A great effort put out by the Mustangs as they had all three relay teams qualify for State with the 4x400m relay with Kim Schropfer, Kailyn Paul, Alice Giussani, and McKenzie Hofstetter taking first running 4:30.47, the 4x100m relay of Tyleiah Gooding, Saege Barnell, Braxtyn Rut and Kaylee Pribyl would take 1st as well running a time :52.84, and the 4x800m relay consisting of Kim Schropfer, Emma Slopsema, Alice Giussani, and Evelyn Woitalewicz placed third but due wildcard had qualified for State as well.In the field events Kim Schropfer managed to qualify to state in the high jump as well leaping to first place reaching the height of 4’10’’ to become Class D-1 high jump champion, and Kaylee Pribyl was able to claim to being a Class D-1 District champion as well taking 1st in the pole vault reaching the height of 10’06”.Pribyl would also go onto qualify for state in the long jump and 100m dash as she placed second in both events.McKenzie Hofstetter was able to qualify for State in the 400m dash, and triple jump, along with Kailyn Paul qualifying for the triple jump as well. The hurdles will have Tyleiah Gooding representing Meridian in the 100m hurdles to round out all girls who were able to qualify for state and for the boys track team for Meridian it was Brayden Rut who was able to qualify for the 300m hurdles as he ran a time :42.38 to become Class D-1 District champion. Diller-Odell:The Diller-Odell Griffins able to send the dynamic duo of seniors with Mallory Denner qualifying for state in the 200m dash and Zeke Jones pushing his ticket to State in the 400m dash on May 12.
