Barneston Man Faces Multiple Charges, Including Drugs, Resisting Arrest

A Barneston man is facing multiple charges in three separate criminal cases.In one case, Heath S. Genrich, age 41, is charged with resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer, both class 1 misdemeanors punishable by one year incarceration and a $1,000 fine each.On July 18, 2023, a deputy with the Gage County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop an ATV driven by Genrich. According to arrest affidavit, “I observed that the ATV did not have a working taillight. I attempted to get close enough to the ATV to make contact, but it appeared that the ATV was actively trying to evade me.”The deputy requested backup and went to Genrich's residence. He wrote in the affidavit that when the ATV arrived, “I then observed Heath Genrich walk from the ATV area toward the front east door of the residence. I contacted Mr. Genrich at that location. I identified my self to Mr. Genrich. He immediately became agitated and argumentative. He continued to try to walk to the door as I blocked his path. As Mr. Genrich walked toward me, I drew my TASR. I ordered Mr. Genrich to stop and warned him that I would tase him. He then attempted to walk to the south entrance to the residence. I blocked his path the south door. Mr. Genrich then started running back to the east door. I deployed my TASR but it had little effect.”Genrich was eventually arrested. After being taken to the Beatrice Community Hospital for medical clearance. He was then transported to the Gage County Detention Center.In this case, Genrich is free on a $3,500 (10 percent) bond.In the second case, Genrich is charged with second degree criminal trespass, a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by six months incarceration and a $1,000 fine.This incident is alleged to have occurred on July 23, 2023. Genrich was not arrested but he was given a citation.In the third case, Genrich is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony punishable by two years imprisonment and one year of post-release supervision.On November 22, 2023, at approximately 7:10 a.m., the Gage County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant of Genrich's residence as part of an ongoing investigation.Deputies reported locating 11 total firearms: two shotguns, six rifles, and three handguns. The firearms consisted of: a black DPMS .223 semi-auto rifle, a Henry .22 rifle, a JTS semi-auto 12-gauge shotgun, a Marlin .444 rifle, a Marlin .22 rifle, a Hi-Point 9mm rifle, an SKS rifle, a New England .410 shotgun, an H&R revolver, a black Taurus 9mm handgun, and a black Beretta 9mm handgun. Ten of the firearms were found in a safe in Genrich's living room. The Beretta handgun was located in Genrich's bedroom.The affidavit also noted discovery of, “A small amount of white residue was located on a handheld mirror and on top of a closet cabinet in Genrich's bedroom. Residue on the mirror and/or cabinet pre-tested positive for methamphetamine.”In this case, Genrich is free on a $10,000 (10 percent) bond.The defendant is represented by attorney Lee M. Timan.Hearings for all three cases are scheduled for January 17, 2024.
