Baseball Post Season In Sight For Area Squads

Landsharks Pick Up Key WinsThe Fairbury Landsharks Seniors were able to go 2-1 recently as the team was able to light up the scoreboard on June 28 against Lincoln High with the final score of 13-5.A lucky 13 hits to match the 13 runs, Auggie Judd, and Jalkobe Atkins were able to come away with three hits. Judd finished with two doubles, and Atkins had one double along with two RBI, one run scored and one walk. Blayne Schelbitzki, Brodie Prellwitz, and Jamison Runge also managed multiple hits as each provided two, Prellwitz was able to lead the team with three RBI.Runge, Schelbitzki, Aldo Ramos and Chris Goeking each contributed one RBI, and Ethan Smith came away with two RBI for the team as well.Brendon Runge got the win on the mound going two-and-a-third innings, allowing zero hits and two runs while striking out four. Fairbury would drop the next game 1-8 against Lincoln Christian the next night, June 29, but bounced back as Blayne Schelbitzki pitched the shutout victory 5-0 as the Landsharks beat Adams on June 30.Leading the Landsharks was Aldo Ramos going two-for-four with one RBI. Brendon Runge went one-for-three with his one hit being a double, but a crucial one as he led the team with two RBI.The Landsharks now at (8-14) hosted Tecumseh on Monday July 3 with coverage from that game in the Friday Digital edition as Fairbury begins to wrap up it’s season. Wilber Pulls Out Win Over Tri CountyWilber Legion Senior Post 101 went 1-1 last week, clinching the lead late against Tri County winning 7-5 on June 28. However, Wilber suffered a loss, 3-4, against Geneva on July 1.Against Tri County it was Coy Rosentreader leading the way for the bats going three-for-four with three RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base.Nick Jacobson and Owen Smith also contributed multiple hits with Smith able to bring in two RBI as well. Carson Radcliff, Caden Parham, Jack Zimmerman, and Carter Skleba each had one hit as well.Smith toed the line and got the win allowing eight hits with five runs and striking out five to go the distance. Wilber enters the week (12-7) going up against Hebron as they will host that game today, July 5. Hebron Comes Up Big On OffenseThe Hebron Seniors went 1-0 recently after winning big 11-4 on the road against Wymore on June 27.With Will Heitman toeing the rubber, the lefty went for four-and-two-thirds innings allowing five hits and three runs while striking out a solid eight.The team matched him with one extra for trouble as they racked up nine hits with their biggest inning coming in the last with five in the seventh. A trio of Hebron Seniors were able to get multiple hits with Jaron Norder, Wyatt Ozenbaugh, and Grant Wiedel. Wiedel was able to have two RBI brought in along with Jacob Beavers and Sam Thumann each having two RBI of their own.Hebron now (5-8) will be on the road today (July 5) taking Wilber. Wymore Can’t Get Bats Going Against HebronWymore Seniors lose a tough one 4-11 at home against Hebron last week.TJ Vitosh and Chris Hroch were able to manage one RBI and two hits each, along with Alex Wenzbauer and T. Belding having one hit for the team’s six total. Belding was on the mound lasting four-and-a-third innings allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out six and walking zero.Wymore now (5-12) will look to regroup on the road after a brief break as they’ll be visiting Fairbury on Thursday, July 13. Tri County In Losing SkidTri County Seniors drop their fourth straight game after losing 5-7 against Wilber on Wednesday, June 28 and then 0-5 against Sutton on Sunday, July 2.Tri County now at (14-6) looks to get back on track as they host Marysville on Wednesday, July 5.
