Betsy Friesen

Elizabeth (Betsy) Johanna Friesen, age 77 years 8 months and 22 days, of Bartlesville Oklahoma formerly from Jansen, Nebraska passed away on May 7, 2025 at Heritage Villa Nursing Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Born on August 9, 1947, Betsy was the daughter of Bernice (Holmen) Scheips and Edgar Scheips. She graduated in 1965 from Fairbury High School, Fairbury, Nebraska. On August 15, 1965 Betsy was united in marriage to Arthur (Artie) Friesen Jr. at this time they made their home in Jansen, Nebraska where she continued to live until 2011. God never blessed Betsy with children of her own but she had two nieces and several great nieces and nephews. Betsy was also blessed in her later years with neighborhood children whom she became very fond of. Betsy had a soft spot for her furry friends as she had numerous dogs most notably labradors when she lived in Jansen. She had 3, a chocolate, a black and a yellow lab, all at the same time. Those dogs were treated like their children. When she moved to Bartlesville, she continued to have dogs. The last was “Peanut” who according to Betsy’s friends, was a very talented escape artist.Betsy, along with her husband Artie, had a large circle of friends. Both of them loved to entertain and were quite the host and hostess. Every year they hosted their annual opening weekend pheasant hunt which brought in friends from all over. After Artie’s passing and moving to Bartlesville, she made lifelong friends with Shelly, Vicki and Connie. Earlier in Betsy’s married life she worked at the Heritage Nursing Home in Fairbury. Later on, Betsy along with her husband Artie operated the Art Friesen Advertising Company out of their home in Jansen.In her early life Betsy was confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Later on, she became a founding member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury.While living in Jansen Betsy had an active social life. She was an active member of the Nebraska Order of Eastern Star. Betsy also was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Any weekend the Cornhuskers played in Lincoln she traveled with her father-in-law Art Sr. to the games. Betsy’s passion was her cooking especially holidays. We all remember the pecan rolls and other treats she pulled out of her freezer. In fact, her vanity license plate was “GR8COOK”. Speaking from experience, you never left her table hungry. Betsy is survived by her brother Ron Scheips and his wife Diane, her nieces Tammy Patterson and Theresa Olson (John) and great nieces and nephews Riley, Malorie Patterson and Erika, Addison and Grant Olson.Betsy was preceded in death by her husband Arthur (Artie) John Friesen Jr., parents Edgar and Bernice Scheips, and Art and Jessie Friesen, father and mother-in-law.Cremation has taken place and a memorial service in Nebraska will be held at a later date. p
