Birds Knock Out Power Substation

Fairbury saw a brief power outage on Friday morning, July 1, 2022. The blackout occurred at about 8:40 a.m. but did not last long. While there was some wind and rainfall at the time, it was not weather that caused the outage.According to Fairbury City Administrator Robert Messbarger, “Two birds entered one of the city’s substations and caused a fault. This resulted in the entire substation being off for approximately 30 minutes.”Fairbury suffered a number of blackouts throughout 2021, often the results of wildlife interaction with power equipment.
