Blue Springs Man Sentenced for Drugs, Obstruction

In one case, Dusty Mayhew, age 55, of Blue Springs, was accused of violating the Sex Offender Registry Act and failing to report every three months as required. Due to Mayhew having previous convictions for violating the sex offender registry requirements, both charges are class 2A felonies, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.Mayhew was convicted on April 2, 2008, in Gage County, of attempted second degree sexual assault. He is therefore required to register with the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry whenever he moves to a new residence. He is also required to report to the sheriff’s office every three months.In accordance with a plea agreement, Mayhew pleaded guilty to reduced charges, two counts of obstructing government operations, each a class 1 misdemeanor.Gage County District Court Judge Rick A. Schreiner sentenced Mayhew to 24 months for each count, to run consecutively.In another case, Mayhew was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a class 4 felony.On December 6, 2022, Gage County Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven my Mayhew, whom was on probation at the time.The defendant's probation officer also arrived on the scene. While on probation, Mayhew is required to submit to searches. During the search of the vehicle, two syringes were located in a lunchbox.According to the arrest affidavit, Mayhew said the syringes contained insulin.However, the contents of one of the syringes field-tested positive for methamphetamine.Mayhew was sentenced to 48 months of probation.
