Catching Up

There is an old line from a Jerry Seinfeld joke that goes, “It’s amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper.” Of, course the comedian is slyly implying nothing is edited and each week the page count fits the news, not the other way around. A quick lesson in newspapers: we choose the page count each week based on the amount of space we can afford. We may have 50 pages worth of news, but can only afford 16 pages. My job and the staff’s is to fit everything onto those 16 pages as concisely as possible. To borrow an old adage, we try to take 25 pounds of meat and stuff it into a five pound sack. Not an easy task. As many of the readers have noted there has been a serious lack of up-to-date real estate listings in the paper weekly. We are way behind, I mean way behind. Due to restrictions via the pandemic, staffing issues and just plain running out of time, we were postponed in getting the information, let alone getting it all in within a timely manner. A solution to the issue moving forward is this: we will be running more current real estate listings in the paper and the back log will be in the Friday online edition. This will hopefully get things up-to-date in print and those wanting to see anything from a ways back, the digital edition will allow us to catch up faster.My hope is that this will get us caught up and we can keep caught up with current real estate listings.
