Charge Against One of Two Suspects in Drug Arrest Dismissed

Charges against one of two suspects arrested in a drug bust earlier this year were dismissed in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. Linda Bauer was the presiding judge.Aleece Montague, age 22, was arrested for possession of THC wax (tetrahydrocannabinol, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis).The charge was dismissed without prejudice, meaning the charge could be reinstated.On Monday, January 9, 2023, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a narcotics search warrant at a residence located in Fairbury. Deputies executed the search warrant at approximately 7:30 a.m.According to Sheriff Nick Georgi, upon entry, there was one adult and one minor child located within the residence. A press release indicates, “Numerous controlled substances were found within the residence to include: Methamphetamine, Marijuana, THC wax, and numerous paraphernalia items.”Arrested at the scene was Alayna Montague, age 27, who was transported to the Jefferson County Jail and booked.Later that morning, Aleece Montague was arrested in connection with the search warrant and also booked into the Jefferson County Jail.Alayna Montague is still facing charges in Jefferson County District Court in relation to the arrest, including two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony, punishable by up to two years in prison, 12 to 18 months of post-release supervision and a $10,000 fine; and child abuse/neglect, a class 3A felony, punishable by up to three years in prison, nine to 18 months of post-release supervision.A hearing for Alayna Montague is scheduled for June 1, 2023.
