Charles Henry Jones

Charles Henry Jones was reunited with his loved ones and God in Heaven on June 2nd, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and an overwhelming amount of love as he crossed over. Charles was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on May 5th, 1942, to Henry Jones and Evelyn Jones (Shoup). After high school, Charles continued working for the City of Fairbury in many capacities within the Street and Parks Department. He stayed with the department, working his way up in positions until his retirement. He was always seen driving his yellow city truck around town, talking and joking with people, and took pride in making sure things were done right. He volunteered as the town's Santa Claus for many years and enjoyed meeting up with family and friends at local restaurants to drink coffee and catch up with everyone. He enjoyed making people feel good and making them laugh as much as possible. In August of 1961, he married the love of his life and best friend Joyce Jones (Michener). In 1981, they adopted their daughter after many years of waiting for the opportunity, and she became her father's shadow and his biggest fan. Charles and Joyce enjoyed 54 years of love, laughter, and adventures together until her passing in 2015. They would often take trips to casinos in Kansas, but their favorite place to visit was The Black Hills of South Dakota. Charles enjoyed many activities throughout his life, including bowling, shooting, fishing on the family's ponds in Kansas, creating ceramics with his wife, playing different card games with family and friends, and dancing to "boogie-woogie" music whenever the opportunity arose. He loved cowboy movies, Native American culture, history, and spirituality, and would take the opportunity to share his knowledge whenever possible. When Charles and Joyce moved to Hickman in 2014, Charles became the unofficial social director of their retirement community. He planned many potlucks and card games for his neighbors, and called the women who so often visited him "Charlie's Angels". Charles enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons more than anything. He loved telling them stories, imparting his wisdom to them, joking around with them, attending their football games, taking them fishing, or just spending an afternoon playing UNO, 31, Rummy, and chess with them. His grandsons were the light of his life, and he was extremely proud of them. They all loved their grandpa immensely and will always cherish the many wonderful times they spent together. Charles is survived by his daughter, Tina Jones, her fiancé Tim Porath, his grandsons Kadan, Gavin, and Evan Carstensen, sister Estaletta Jones, brother Allen (Letha) Jones, and a great amount of friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all. Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 15th at 2pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, with a reception immediately following the service.
