Christmas at Crystal Returns

Last year, Fairbury City Councilperson Brian Schmidt proposed “Christmas at Crystal,” a drive-through Christmas light display at Crystal Springs Park. People drove through Crystal Springs Park at night, passing lighted tableaus of holiday scenes. The proposal was approved unanimously by the Fairbury City Council and the result proved very popular. Schmidt wants to hold the event again this year.
Schmidt spoke at a Public Works Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, “This is going to be pretty much same thing we did last year, just going to have Christmas lights set up in the park. Won’t bother any roads, so the park is still open. Normal operation during the day.
“The only difference is at night we were going to request to shut the gate, just like we did last year,” Schmidt said, “Just for security purposes.”
The display is expected to be bigger this year. Schmidt also spoke to the city council later that same night, “A little bit bigger. A little bit better. We asked for a little bit more time to set up.”
Phil Rogge, who serves on both the city council and the Public Works Committee, said, “Brian has done all the work on this and deserves all the kudos for it.”
The city council voted unanimously to allow “Christmas at Crystal” to proceed.
